Couple of Questions

I've ordered the Rulebook and have decided to get some Navwar minis ordered as well. But i would like to order the minis as soon as possible so i don't have to wait too long for them, but because i don't have the rulebook yet there are a couple of questions i would like to ask.

1. I'm thinking of getting a RN Carrier so i will also order some swordfish, but i wanted to know if a pack of 15 will be enough. I see some other ships have aircaft, what type of aircraft are the most common and do Navwar make models for them? If not, what do people use to represent them - do most people just use counters?

2. Are U-class subs included for the British?

3. Which Cruiser and Destroyer types are included for the RN?

4. What kind of ships would be good escourts for Tirpitz and the Bismark?

5. Basically, i want to get a few ships of British and Germans to fight it out, are there any ships anyone would recommend to get or avoid?

Thanks in advance. :)

For the German Fleet my advice is the Early War German £9.00 Navwar fleet pack. That gives you the following.

Bismarck
Tirpitz
Gneisenau
Scharnhorst
Deutchland
Schlesien (in the supplement)
Prinz Eugen
3x Koln Class cruiser
4 x Z-23 Class
4x Maas Class

This gives you a good all round German fleet. The Koln class and destroyers are good solid escorts , and you have all the historical big ships.

For the Brits if you get the Ark Royal you will want Swordfish and Fulmars. I would go with the Tumbling dice 1/600 scale aircraft and have each one represent one fight. Looks nice and you can give them a decent paint job. If you want the illustrious it fields grumman martlets as well.

For Brits a solid mix of Leander and York class cruisers with Tribal or JKN class destroyers. These all make good escorts. For battleships go with the QE class or King George V. The Renown is a nice ship but has the battlecruiser low armour problem. The Nelson is too slow and the Hood is too vulnerable. The supplement gives you a much bigger range to play with. Off the top of my head the only British submarines in the basic book are the S and T class.

I think you can get Navwar 1/3000 online from Spirit Games. IIRC the U Class sub makes its appearance in the supplement.

you can also buy from navwar by good old fashioned snail mail.

I got my order very quickly, within 3 working days of posting, so you really don't lose much time!

Navwar models, don't worry too much about type, as 1/3000 scale aircraft are about half a centimetre long. I reckon you can also stick three or four on a base and use them as a flight...? your choice I guess. I don't like the 1/3000 ones much, unless you're using them to show 'parked' aircraft on the deck or ground. I'd get some of the 1/1200 scale ones, put a couple together for a flight. looks much nicer, and adds a bit of a third dimension - the bigger aircraft are higher up=closer to you=larger to look at. perspective, i believe the graphic term is... but i digress.

As for british ships, you can't go wrong with the good ol' fashioned Queen Elizabeths. 25 knots, 8 15" guns. The Prince of Wales class is also quite snacky in other systems. Don't know how well they work out for VaS.

thanks to everyone for their help. Just one more question, are stats for all of the following included?

Navwar GERMANY – early war
TYPE IX x 3

BELFAST
AJAX
J/K/N CLASS x 2
S CLASS x 4
MODERNIZED TRIBAL CLASS x 2

Thanks
