Counters for all!!!!! Online Expression of interest!

I like the game but the main reason I play is because my mates are playing it and I loved the B5 series. I have no intention of ever buying models, though I admit they look cool (the Brakiri are my personal favourite).

So for me the counters allow me to roll some dice and enjoy the campaign with the rest of my mates. I think the game runs really well but I don't need models to enjoy the experience.

Counters rock!
I've already received an assurance from Matt Sprange that there will be a new counter set after the release of the 2nd Edition. :D

The Metatron was mentioning 3-D plastic counters, though this may have been just to taunt me, along with name dropping CC at the last tourney.

The availability of counters is the single most important proselytizing element to the game. The concept that one edition's books (2e) and one counterset can get you completely into what amounts to a miniatures game would make ACtA easily the richest miniatures game in the market for the money. To get a reasonably-built out army for most minis games costs about $200 US between rules and forces. This is approximately right for Flames of War, BFG, and Confrontation. It was very accurate estimate ($200) for some of the games that have gone before: WarZone, Zor, Chronopia, and Battletech. Our local house fantasy battles system ends up sitting at about the same price point. WH is notably worse.

With full, cheap, and explandable counter support, ACtA blows all these options away. Only options like Hordes of the Things and DBA/M are on a par.

Given enough people play, the culture of minis gaming ends up with players who like the system eventually buying full fleets.

Counters are one of the essential things for the game, I think.

Because you just buy the counters for much cheaper than a fleet set would cost you, and you can try out the fleet before you invest in minis.

Thus ACTA has a lower entry cost as a result.

I think that it is important that you have a full set of counters and that the counters come on round bases which are sized to a common standard with the miniatures.

As for Evil Bob, he can always play with my Brakiri when he wants to push metal. However Evil Bob has yet to ask me yet!!!! :?

Evil Bob likes the look of the brakiri but is playing centauri in the campaign.

Although I do like the ships I still have a soft spot for the Narn, mainly because G'Kar was my favourite B5 character.

And Polemarch's ships are all brilliantly painted and I would hate to be responsible for any collateral damage, his wife is doing a good enough job already

Counters are good, we've been using them because only two out of four players have fleets and the two that don't can't afford them yet. Plus I used them while turning the house upside down looking for the box with my EA fleet in it!
Plus we get to use the other races that way.

Let me put it this way -

If counters are not supplied with ACTA 2nd edition, then I will not be buying it.

Cheers

Thats true. Matt has said there will be a new counter set to fill in the gaps. However its unlikely to be ready for the launch of 2E.
So i had an idea.
I've made some counters for the missing ships for Vassal ACTA mod. I just used the available pics from the webiste here.
The pics aren't perfect, cause there not the Top View of each ship.
But then i thought, why not take top view pics of the missing ships and make them into counters? (for Vassal ACTA and for printing out for the counters fans.)
Heres a crude example of a Convoy Guardian i've been painting, i should be finished painting the ship in a day or less. Then i can take a better picture and turn it into a counter.

So if you would like to contribute a picture of your painted Arma ships (with the top view) for the ACTA/Counter players, that would be great!

If anybody has experience in making these counters into a PDF printable, please volunteer :D

i have got quite good at making counters for vassal myself lately. jay did some of the early ones last year after i cut thm and added the fire arcs but since then I have been doing them. the pak ships I have added, same with things like the shakara and the nolo'tar. ok they are not top down but you can get the general use of them as you know the front etc.

But refusing to buy 2e based on the lack of counters? Cutting your nose off to spite your face, is the phrase I think.

I don't use counters but you're right we do need them. It would be a good move to have a new set on the market at the same time 2E comes out.

My Vote for counters too.
How am i supposed to play demo games with friends, without counters?

Those counters get poeple into the game, i myself wouldnt have started without them.

So long as it's their own nose, they can do what they like, I'm going to get 2E, counters or no, but I would prefer counters.
