cost of Stealth and Reflec options for spaceships (MGT)

Really, Stealth and Reflec options each cost MCr 0.1 per ton of hull? That means the Stealth and Reflec options cost nearly 3x as much as the basic hull. Is there errata for this? I can see them costing MCr 0.01 to MCr 0.03 per ton of hull. But for the stated price I would rather add regular armor instead of Reflec as it is cheaper.

Also, what would a "standard" sickbay be in cost and tonnage for a spaceship? I am thinking to use the laboratory values. How much space does an autodoc take up?

The price is correct. RAM on stealth aircraft is more expensive than a similar amount of aluminum. Also, a material that could reflect laser energy that is powerful enough to vaporize regular hull material at a distance of thousands of KMs is going to be pricey...
 
Standard armor is cheaper, but it also takes up space. Adding Reflec don't take up any space (neither does the stealth coating).

The Reflec option isn't meant to replace armor - its a supplement. It can also be used on ships that don't have the space for actual armor, giving them at least a little protection.

No errata. Don't forget that regular armor takes up space as well.

You think that's bad, try adding radiation shielding. It can easily reach 1/3 of the price of an all-up warship.


Reflec isn't a bad buy for a low tech or civilian ship - as noted, it doesn't use up space, but it also isn't limited by the maximum armour for the tech level. The ability to make a trade ship shrug off beam laser fire, or a TL9 warship immune to pulse lasers are quite tempting.

For that matter, even at TL12+, the fact that it provides some insurance against the bomb-pumped laser of the heavy missile makes it at least worth a second glance.


Stealth is more so-so. It depends on what you see 'spaceship stealth' as being and what your GM will let you get away with if the bad guys (or good guys, depending) don't spot you.
Pairing with stealth jump is a good one.
