Conversion RQ3 to MRQ

hi all,

has someone made a conversion from rq3 to mrq? (sorry, if this topic has been already in discussion, but i couldn't find it)

important aspects are from my point of view skills like resilience, persistence or acrobatics since they havn't existed before.

how would you convert skills like hide and sneak? use the better one, or, add them together divided by 2, etc. and replace it with stealth? (same case with acrobatics, represented in rq3 by climb, jump, swim, etc. separately)

thx

ps. what about aging - i havn't found anything in the rulebooks yet? any suggestions?

Are you referring to converting Characters or stats from adventures?

Character Conversion should be pretty straight forward. For resilience and persistence you could use CONx5 and POWx5 as a starting point. The multiplier could be varied based in the characters overall experience level and type (A magician type character could get POWx5 persistence and CONx3 resilience for example). Being a nice guy (most of the time) I would allow the highest skill to be used for combined skills (hide and sneak for example).

Magic is goint to be harder to convert. Spirit magic to Rune Magic requires Integrating Runes and Runecasting. Magic for Divine Magic users may be even more difficult to convert as MRQ effectively caps the number of Divine Spell points at POW-1 (which would leave the character with 1 MP) due to the Dedicated POW rule. Sorcery works the closest to earlier versions.

Converting NPC stats in adventures is much more of a pain. They are very different - Damage Bonuses can be very different for the same stats, HP, Weapon Damage, AP's, etc are all pretty different. Strike Ranks and Combat Actions will have to be calculated - and then there are the aforementioned magic conversion issues.

I used to think MRQ was a very similar system to RQ2/3 with mostly some simplifications. After using it a while I now think it is a very different system that only looks very similar on the surface.

thx for your input :D

both. stats is a bit a problem, since some of the characters have aged. i found no update of aging rules in mrq. so i keep the old ones (from rq3), or has someone any alternatives?

legendary heroes suggests a starting age of 35+ for the epic heroes but gives no clues on consequences for stats of aged characters...

aging rules would be very welcome indeed.

For skills, I'd either find the closest equivalent, or use an average of old skills that have been meshed together

Using the aging rules from 3 would work with one caveat - reducing stats doesn't reduce skills like Resilience. While you get older your skill goes up with experience. Losing a point of CON will only reduce your Resilience by 1 - so some mechanism for reducing/capping skills like resilience and athletics needs to be put into place. In RQ2/3 STATx5 rolls (ass well as stat based resistance rolls) would be reduced by aging.

One Idea that has been proposed on these boards is to put a cap on skills like Athletics, Resilience, Persistence of STATx5 or so. This can be used as a general rule or implemented as part of aging.
