Construction Deck on a ship

Assume a 1000 ton ship with M1 and J1 capability, TL 12.
Add in 400 tons of construction deck space and you have a mobile Class A production facility that can make 200 ton ships.

In the ship design section it says an average commercial shipyard can build a ship at one day per million credits worth of ship.

How fast could a Construction ship build a ship? Are there any guidelines for how many crew or robots would need to be on the ship?

I don't think there are guidelines, but I think 1,000 tons is too small. At least on it's own. Even if the construction bay were fully automated you have the problem of component and material storage. Not to mention fuel and accomodation for crew that won't be part of the construction crew if you aren't using robots.

Chances are what you've actually got is a Portable Class B Refit/Repair facility rather than a Portable Class A Construction Deck.

The quickest way to handle the set up of a mobile yard would be to buy the construction deck and a full hanger. Components are fabricated, and assembled in the construction deck then moved to the hanger for final assembly.

This would also allow the construction deck to handle storage for materials, parts, etc...without needing extra cargo space to be detailed to the construction deck.( for the detail oriented players/ref who want to track that sort of thing :D )

The hangers in High Guard are double the tonnage of the maximum size vessel it is designed to hold.

to hold extra hulls that are due ot be fitted out or repaired add docking spaces, ( +10% of stored vessels tonnage) Add some staterooms for work crew, and cargo space for basic supplies and you have a functional mobile yard. for giggles and grins put it in a basic hull, with a power core, no drives, no bridge etc.. and you have a mobile module that can be delivered, dropped off and picked up.

this is one of those additions that makes me grin by the way. I had to rough guess how to build a construction module when I was working on the commercial starship book I worked on...now in rewrite mode....

The construction deck rules are the same as the construction yard rules from Space Station, just have the requirement that manufacturing plants capable of turning raw materials into basic ship parts is required for one stop shipbuilding.

WARNING: This can also lead to Macrolife settings.
