Considering Abbai

Hi,
as the topic suggest I am considering on fielding an Abbai fleet in our campaign. We are playing 10pt Battle.

While I basically like the Abbai, I think their greatest disadvantage is the lack of long ranged weaponry and a battle level ship. Therefore I intend to throw in some Vree.

In order to prevent my marital status from going from 'married' to 'recently divorced' I am planning on starting out with a fleet box of each and the new command saucer, which should keep costs at a reasonable level.

I was wondering whether anybody would care to comment on the resulting fleet and any ships I should add?

Thanks
Michael

I'm a tad confused, you HAVE a battle level ship. The Lakara, it's a solid ship with a short range, but pretty good beam, and a ton of dice in every arc close up. It also has decent damage, and 8 interceptors.

However you might want to consider a Brakiri Kaliva if you want long range fire support, it has a sap tripple damage lance, and a slow loading secondary beam, but more importantly, it's a cool looking model!

Wouldn't worry about it, you don't really need one, I have been through a campaign and had to force a warship into a low level fight just to use it :-)
you have already mentioned the Z'Takk which should do you nicely if you really want a warship.

My favourite ships are the Miliani and Marata - although the Marata has no beam its hull 6 and can soak some damage, plus good level of interceptors too. The Tiraca is a good patril level ship too with its precise beam. The Milani's beam is healf decent and with the refits can become Double Danmage which makes it awesome.

Two Lakara's in that War slot pack more than enough wallop for many War-level ships.

Just ask my local gamers, they hate my Abbai fleet.

The Abbai do have quite nice looking models too...I must get round to painting that fleet box I have lying around somewhere ;)

I liek them. You've got to be patient, and realise that you'll NEVER win initiave; but the first time you get off a good broadside, it'll all be ok :D

I am currently playing an Abbai only fleet in my local campaign and am doing pretty well. I am not a fan of using a league fleet as I think it detracts from some of the neat and powerful crew duties you can get. An example would be the Abbai Peace Summit you can get on a roll of 2 or the fact that the Abbai can just choose not to attack as they are pacifists and still gain nice RR.

Here is the campaign site for you to see.

Tonight I fought a straight forward three-way battle with an Abbai fleet. Five point raid, I took a Lakara, two Bimith and three Tiraca. I went against a Sharlin/ Tigara group, and a Vree group with a two Xaak and a Xill. I won on points 30-25-10.
The Lakara got hit long range by the Sharlin right off the bat and was hit with two bad criticals, no weapons fire and -4 movment. The other five ships closed and destroyed the Xill and a Xaak. Actually, the Lakara finally repaired the weapons critical and destroyed the Xaak just as it was trying to jump out.
The Vree player destroyed the tigara, and the Minbari crippled a Bimith (2 points) destroyed a Tiraca (3 points) and wasted the other Xaak (20 points)

The Bimith were my heavy hitters. The sixteen twin-linked AD to port are what finished the Xill.

I will never understand how anyone ever gets their Bimith into a fight...mine are always critted out of the fight early. That and not sure how folks get so much damage out of the broadsides. Its single damage...against hull 5 your expecting only eight hits, one crit.

Sigh...mine are just cursed...I'm sure of it...
