[CONAN] Interesting Weapon & Combat Model

This disengagement/re-engagement is a kind of exiting and re-entering your square (as you have suggested many times above), but I do not think you really need to move twice the mini.

I think I would keep the movement not only for immersion reasons (showing movement on the battlefield) but also for tactical reasons. These moves may take two rounds to complete, and one side or the other might find a good tactical reason to move to a specific square--say to set up additional Attack of Opportunities and trap the opponent.

An interesting note is the consequence that this new rule has on Reach Weapons (e.g. warspears).
With these weapons, if you are in Melee range of a machete-man, you need only to make a 5ft step back (and not suffer AoO) to make your Onset attack.
But even in that case I would keep the limitation "Only the first Atk is Onset".

Yes. And, above, I was working on a way, with dice throws, to consider a standard melee attack, later in the round, as an Onset attack. It wouldn't be easy, but it would be possible. Like a Feint, maybe the warrior attempting to gain Onset position will have to sacrifice an attack in order for a chance to gain Onset (some sort of roll vs. opponent).

SUGGESETION: Since your group is used to the rules changing each game session anyway, why not just try the Codex wholesale and see how it plays? Try it for a couple of sessions until the players understand it. Then, weigh it vs. normal Conan combat. Even if you continue to mesh the two systems, I think that play testing the Codex as it was meant to be played will be helpful for your work meshing the two together.

Not so sure why you say 2 rounds...you need only 1 round!!
LET'S KEEP IT SIMPLE!!
Re-adjustment from Melee back to Onset is: 5ft to step behind and 5ft to go back to your square= 10 ft in total, which is a Move Action to me.
The Standard Action is the new Onset Attack.
TOTAL: Move Action+Standard Action = 1 Round.

In reality that's more or less what I was describing: a way to make a single Onset attack even if you are already at Melee range.
And again: LET'S KEEP IT SIMPLE!!
If you start a round already at Melee range you can:
- Make a Full Attack of with all of your attacks at Melee Range
- Spend a Move action to re-adjust and make 1 single Onset Atk as a Standard action.

No, at least for the moment.
To get the most from a pure Codex Martialis game you need to use Martial Feats.
However, I do not want my players to be forced to re-build all their old Conan PCs's stats.
Even if I give them for free (1 feat per BAB point) there's too much changing to me.
Furthermore I prefer to play Mongoose Conan, even if a modified, improved, Codex-ized Conan.
I like the Codex Martialis, but I think i'll use it as a pure system for a non-Conan historical campaign (something like Late Roman/Dark Age), but not now: I do not have time.

Luca, and those interested in the Codex....

I see that the Codex stuff is expanding. Check out DriveThru RPG. There's the Codex Guide to Medieval Baltic, and coming soon, a campaign setting, the False Facade.

Just FYI.
