Conan 2nd ed: Healing

P. 191, a character gains hit points back by resting. If a character undergoes "complete bedrest and does nothing for an entire day", he gets double those hit points.
I have a few questions on this:
1. What is the difference between "resting" a day and "complete bed rest" for a day? What activities can the person "resting" do? Does light activity (walking, shopping, lifting light loads, etc.) count?
2. Can a character gain hit points for sleeping/resting for an 8-10 period (read "sleeping and taking it easy from dusk to dawn")?

1. Pretty much what you say. Anything that does not involve adventuring or hard work would qualify.

2. Strictly speaking, no, as you have to go through the 24 hour period to heal (and in your example, would be counted as resting, not bed rest). However, if you are very low on hit points, a kind GM may give you a few back for a decent night's rest :)

Just FYI, the 3.5 PHB (pg. 146) presents a different view than what Matt is saying.

Resting = 8 hours of sleep.

Full Bed Rest = 24 hours in the sack.
