Computer/Software Questions for a new player

Alright, I managed to find some answers by looking at past posts, but I'm still a bit curious/confused on the following ones.

1) Is it possible to have a ship-computer using normal software setup to do an Eng (j-drive) check while the rest of the crew manages the other tasks? The idea is using Intelligent Interface 1, Intellect 1, and Eng (j-drive) Expert 2 to get jump check at +1. Or is this being done incorrectly and you have to pay for the ship specific jump drive?

2) When buying Expert software, I assume you are paying the cost for each skill you wish to mimic (and you’re not paying 1 time for all possible skills)?

3) For a Wafer Jack what does rating/4 vs rating/8 mean? I figured it meant it could hold 4 programs vs 8 programs, but I wasn’t sure on this one.

1) Yes, you can trigger the jump using expert software, but it does not replace any other software or hardware. See Preparing for Jump, p148.

To Jump you need:
Jump Drive
Power Plant
Fuel
Computer
Jump Control software
Astrogator crew-member to calculate the jump (can be replaced by Expert software)
Engineer crew-member to initiate the jump (can be replaced by Expert software)

2) Yes, it is not clearly stated, but implied by the rules.

3) Yes, it can store software with total bandwidth 4 or 8. It is running Expert software up to bandwidth 2.
