This sounds too much like a sci-fi short story I read once called "Sandkings" by George R.R. Martin. You guys really should make a read of it. Of course, then you might skip the T-shirts, heh. :wink:

Ohhh, it's a dandy.

Here's the synopsis-

When Simon Kress returned to his home planet of Baldur from an offworld business trip, he was amused to find that his tank of Earth piranhas had cannibalized themselves into extinction, and of the two exotic animals that roamed his estate, only one remained. Now, in search of some new pets to satisfy his cruel pursuit of amusement, Simon finds a new shop in the city where he is intrigued by a new lifeform he has never heard of before ... a collection of multi-colored sandkings. The curator explains that the insect-like animals, no larger than Simon's fingernails, are not insects, but animals with a highly-evolved hive intelligence capable of staging wars between the different colors, and even religion--in the form of worship of their owner. The curator's warning to Simon about the regularity of their feeding, unfortunately, was not taken seriously.... "Outer Limits" Episode, Hugo Award Winner, Locus Poll Award Winner, Nebula Award Winner.

Finished the additional weathering, added a few safety signs and given the whole thing two coats of acrylic varnish (diluted). It may need a coat of undiluted varnish as 'crazing' has already appeared in the existing coats! :roll: All that's left is the base.

And here concludes the construction of only my second ever piece of terrain! At this rate I'll have a full set of terrain by the turn of the next decade!

The rough concrete texture was a mixture of fine and medium pet shop sands mixed with some crushed barley seeds (or similar) glued down using PVA.

The tank isn't fixed to the base so that, if the base warps at any time, I can easily remove the model and mount onto another platform.

That's exactly the position I was in until I discovered card terrain - Now I have a full city!

I wish I had the time to scratch build stuff, particularly when examples like this are there for inspiration.

Absolutely no idea! I've got a number of Platformer, and Hexagon kits including the Power Plant and Chemical Plant kits which feel more Starship Troopers than Mega-City one to me! But that maybe down to a temporary loss of 'vision' on my part. Have a few sheets of foamcore, mdf, lego bits, plastic containers, etc. but am at a loss what to build with them.

One piece of terrain I may attempt is a modular under Meg-Way (?) scene. Something with supporting columns for the road above (but no road), debris, lean-to shack, etc. Maybe something with a bridge support 'wall' that provides an elevated platform?

No photos as it's not built yet! Had to order mine from the states.
