Comment my own defensive CM

CM: Quick Draw

If someone attacks you and you succeed with an Opposed Evade Test vs the Attackers Attack roll and get to chose a CM, you can draw a weapon, which is close at hand (like a sheated sword) as a "free action".

Usually to draw a weapon cost a CA.

Any thoughts about this?

I think it's kinda cool, someone attacks you and as you make an evasive manuever to get out of the way, you manage to draw your weapon, now your opponent understand how lethal you are...

I think it should still cost a CA to use it, so you have the weapon ready for parrying, and to attack on your next SR.
Making it free however... Seems a bit too powerful.

But great idea.

It doesn't quite work as you think. Remember that to get a defensive CM either the attacker misses and you succeed at an evade or the attacker hits but you get a critical.

If the attacker misses then a) the opposed Evade roll is opposed by a failure so it isn't really opposed.

Alternately if the attacker misses you could simply abort a parry or evade, not spend the CA on the parry and instead spend the CA to draw a weapon next time around with no chance of failure.

There are a few edge circumstances where you might want to use the CM. If you roll a critical or you really have to be able to attack with the drawn weapon on your next SR.

On the whole though you probably find that it's one of those CMs like riposte that very rarely gets used. To be honest if I were to add it in I wouldn't be bothered with the opposed Evade roll I would simply let the person draw the weapon as a CM. On less dice roll and the CM is already pretty weak.

That's my take on it.

The other problem here is that you get to draw the sword, but can not attack with it due to the evade rules (though you could parry and potentially riposte). As a player I might chose a trip or disarm maneuver instead.

I like the idea of it as a regular CM not limited to evade, though it would still hinge a bit on the attacker bungling, or rolling a crit. Therefore a bungled attack could end up with steel in your face and an immediate retaliation imminent. :)

true its not a powerful CM, but I think it's a cool one. I think that just make it a CM and not have to use a Evade roll could work.
