Well it didn't take me long before the next update. I've added the Pak'ma'ra to this version as well as a readme for the PocktPC install. Download now

Other than the data update, not much has changed since the last release.
 
Well I have had more than one request for a Palm version and I am looking into what I need in order to program for one of those. In essence, the tools are totally different so I need to go through the process of finding that tool and then re-writing the code. I'm trying to figure it out though since there is definitely a demand for a Palm version of this.

Please take a look at Drakh stats found some problems with heavy raider missing SAP and the Fast destroyer range and AD. Keep up the good work, exelent sim. :D

Thanks Arcadia. Definitely a little off on those stats. I'll have it corrected for the next release. I'm also adding in the alternate fleets like the Ghosts of Omelos, Argent's Crusaders and the ships from the Earth/Minbari war book. Getting pretty close on the data being in a file rather than compiled which will allow people to make stat changes and the like on their own (good for playtesting).

I'm also looking at doing a Pocket Ship Viewer so you can have all the stats and everything right on your PDA. You basically have them all now with the combat sim, but a few things like Speed, turns, etc; aren't there. Would simplify things if you could flip over to viewing the stats rather than having to find the sheet of paper/flip through the book.

hi thanks for this its great works well on the computer but i just can not get it to work on my pda (help) i downloaded that framwork thing but the dam thing dose not seem to install on my pda .

I'm happy to hear that. You'll like a little addition I've put in for the defending ship. It now keeps a lists of all the criticals taken underneath the other stats. So if you get towards the end of a firing round and you have multiple ships firing at the same defender, you don't need to scroll through the text on the right to figure out all the criticals.

What is the make and Operating System of your PDA? As far as I know this only works on PocketPC 2003 systems. I can develop it for other things like Windows Mobile and Windows CE, but haven't done that just yet so that could be the problem.

May i ask how to start your combat simulator ?

For the most part it is as simple as clicking on WindowsCombatSim.exe. However, there is a prerequisite of having the .NET 2.0 framework installed. Someting that I don't make abundatnly clear, sorry about that. Most PCs should have it at this point, but it isn't unheard of for someone to not have it if they aren't obsessive with their updates. Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind any of the new people that the complete source code for the application is included and can be edited using Visual C# express edition available for free from Microsoft. Don't like the way the windows are laid out, want it in a different language, etc; Just head on in there and start messing around to your heart's content. :)
 
Is there anyway possible to take this online?

Well I am trying to put a web front end on this so that people can host it on their websites. Would require the ability to run ASP.NET which is not something that every hosting service out there has available. Pretty sure this won't meet your needs though.

The idea being, using it in combination with Vassal ACTA?
I actually started working on modifying the Vassal engine so that all this stuff was directly in the game. Unfortunately I just couldn't make any head way on the code and had to shelve the idea for a while. Vassal is a pretty big project with a LOT of parts, aqnd I just couldn't for the life of me figure out where to add this sort of thing in. Asked about how to go about adding this sort of thing in the forums and was basically told "Isn't it obvious?" Well no, it isn't and the tutorials are years out of date so I gave up. They're working on a new version and asked what people wanted to see and I voted heavily for improved code tutorials. If they make it more obvious then I'll start working on putting it directly into the code as a custom module item. If they don't, I'll see what I can do about making some sort of combintion chat/combat sim server.


Oh, that reminds me. I've gotten the code put in for all the extra ships like the stuff for the EM-war and S&P articles. Are people up for another data update with no real functionality changes?

If you mean the corrections to the ships mentioned earlier, then yes it would have them. If you mean something else though, I wouldn't have added it yet. Did I miss an S&P article somewhere? I don't always give those a full read.

I'll see if I can get it out by the end of the week. Been tweaking a bunch of stuff lately and need to get it back to a more stable version before it gets released.

Nope, just the corrections mentioned at the top of the thread.

If you got that... I have no complaints.
 
Regarding the combat sim and Vassal ACTA. It could be fun using MSN/Yahoo chat, 2 players and a referee, who uses the combat sim to call out results.

Not a bad idea and certainly something that can be done using what I've currently done. I've fooled around with Vassal a few times and the the very first thing that struck me about it was "Man, this has to suck for rolling out the attacks." Haven't tried to do it online playing against someone, but I imagine it takes a whole hell of a lot of time. If you could click on your ship, click on an enemy ship and then select your weapons and press fire it would speed the game up considerably.
 
The more i use this program that more i like it!
It saves so much time, highly recommended for anybody who wants a quicker game !!!
For me the holy grail would be combining this with Vassal, it would be Fantastic!
Maybe someday.. :lol:
 
How do u deselect a weapon's trait? (for example, Double Damage/Triple Damage).
Do i have to restart the program each time?
The reason i ask is that if the next firing ship doesn't have that trait, u have to restart the program?
