Close all blast doors - slows the game down?

I played my first full game of ACTA on Sunday. We had 6 players using various ships from different races to get used to all the rules.

We found that "close all blast doors..." (CBD) was quite a popular SA. However this slowed the game down quite a lot and seemed very awkward to use, especially when getting hit with 20+ damage. You end up rolling 40+ dice.

Looking on the forums, it appears we are playing this rule correctly. So has anyone thought of any house rules to make this SA quicker to play with?

Figure out what 1/3 of the damage total is (rounding up), say a ship took 21 damage, so thats 7. Roll a d6. The number shown after rolling either adds or subtracts from the total.

1 = -3
2 = -2
3 = -1
4 = +1
5 = +2
6 = +3

So if the first total is 7 and the d6 rolls a 5, total damage negated is 9 from that one attack.

I got no idea if this will work, but logically it should. More math, less dice rolling.

Just add it to the bulkhead roll, 1-3 becomes a bulkhead, even could give some protection against precise weapons getting crits. Think it's about 5% or so better than the 5+ save ( rough calculation).

But if you blend it through the Attack Table as an improved Bulkhead, then it seriously alters the GEG dynamics. Currently CBD! saves happen after GEG.

We've also seen it really helps ships like the Omega much more than ships like the G'Quan. One weapon at its primary range vs two weapons. It does slow the game, and it slides the game toward ships with a primary weapon and an insignificant secondary. It really hurts single weapons ships as they have in effect become 33% smaller than their counterparts, since the ruling that single weapon ships can't use.

(Assuming that's right, I never questioned the guys who brought me the ruling)

They can use it, just can't fire their weapon when they do. I assume that a ship with all except one weapon disabled would be under the same restriction, but that isn't as clear.

It's very useful for something like the Vree Xixx which has 2 slow-loading main weapons.

Stupid GEG messed up my idea.
Would it make Drakh ships too powerful ?
An Adira probably wouldn't do it because of the 1 wpn thing.
With haven't ever played Drakh or see them in action have no idea how good it would make them. My gut tells me not too much as raiders only have 1 wpn & low GEG and they seem a little weak also.
