Can anyone help me with explaining what the movement rate for the Climbing use of Athletics is?
The errata says all references to CA should read combat rounds. Okay, that’s noted.
So, the text says that a character can normally move 2m per combat round (given errata). It then has a formula for working out how armour affects movement on a steep slope and sheer surface. E.g. a human can only climb if ¾ of their normal move rate (6m) minus armour penalty is positive.
The text mentions that an Athletics check can ‘double the rate of his modified movement’. Note use of the word modified.
I also saw, in Pavis Rises, an explicit reference says “adventurers can climb a 2m per Combat Action.”
Given all of this, what I don’t understand is:
1) is climbing at 2m per combat round, maybe up 4m per round with an Athlestics check but only if the armour penalty allows any climbing at all?
Or,
2) is climbing movement actually the ‘modified’ speed given by the armour penalty, so 6m or 4m per round (for steep and sheer surfaces respectively) minus armour penalty (if any) and then doubled on a successful Athletics check (which would perversely exceed normal movement)
All of this I presume costs at least 1 CA to perform anyway (as a Move combat action). Bearing in mind this is the rate of movement in 5 seconds?
I hope someone can help! Thanks in advance.
