Character Generator

I'm trying to design a Runequest 2 character generator that is also compatable with Deus Vult and I'm almost finished (my thanks to Phil Hibbs for some of the calculations I've ripped off.). I'm not very proficient in Excel, (I have Excel 2010) and I have one obstacle to overcome. I created a table for advanced skills and it totally works, but I have no idea how to get it so that any skill that is picked out will deduct 10 points from the total points.

Once I figure that out, this sheet will be swell.

The only thing left to do other than that is make an equipment table that calculates load and encumbrance as well as one that keeps track of money or asset points. Everything else is finished. I would attach the file to this post, but I don't know if I'm allowed.

@ PhilHibbs

I'm doing some character generation with your RQ2_v1.6 spreadsheet. I noticed a couple things. Either I'm reading the rulebook wrong on pp 14-15 or there is a problem with how you put in the culture-based skills - it's all about where the commas are after Language (Native).

* Civilized doesn't get 50 in courtesy, it only gets it free
* Barbarian, Nomad, and Primitive don't get 50 in Survival, they only get it free
* Primitive gets track free.

Really nice spreadsheet though, it makes selecting the 250 skill points very simple.

I've never used Filemaker, is there a free version that can run this?

You can download a 30 day free trial from the homepage.

Sorry I dno't know if there is a freeware software to open fp7 file.

I'm not terribly interested in a character generator that I can only use for 30 days, but I'll have a look at it.
*Edit*: Can't, because it needs to update Windows Installer, and I don't want to do that on my work machine. I might have a go on my home machine, but that eats into my family time rather than my lunch break. Suggestion: don't use FileMaker, most GMs won't have it and won't want to shell out $300 to run a character generator.

Added a new record, picked Human, clicked all the Roll buttons, and got a CON of 2. Clicked "Roll CON" a few more times and managed to get a 1.

Did this not fit in with your plans? 8)

:( Yes I know, filemake have a little problem whit random number, click more times and choose what you like. :)

I study a solution for random number, according to dice face and number.

Lots of programs have trouble generating truly random numbers. It has to do with the deterministic nature of computers.

That said, there are sometimes ways we can improve on random number generation in our software. For Filemaker, you may try the approach that was used here:

It may create better random numbers for you.

:D
Ok all works. Thanks Chrönos, your link it's magic.
This is the new link of version 1.0 with random number corrected and other little problems resolved.
