A few questions on character generation:

1) In what order do the survival, event and promotion roles take place ?

2) If the survival roll comes first, and you blow it (being forced to leave), do you still do the event and promotion rolls for that term ?

3) When mustering out, do you have to declare which benefit die rolls use any bonuses before rolling ?

4) When mustering out, do you have to use any benefit die roll bonuses ?

thanks,

1/ What you said: Survival first (basically if fail you replace event by mishap), event then promotion (as event can give bonus for promotion)

2/ No, if you blow it, you do not roll event or promotion (so you don't get bonus promotion skill), you roll mishap instead. [Go to jail, do not pass go, do not collect 200].

3/ Good question, but I guess you must declare before the roll as it seems too overpowered if you declare it after the roll. (but declared before they are a little underpowered)

4/ Don't know, but I cannot guess why someone would choose to pass up a bonus, it is necessarily usefull at least for a money roll.

1. The order is actually:
Roll for skill
Roll for survival (if you fail, roll mishap)
Roll for promotion
Roll for Event

2. If you fail your survival roll, you roll on the mishap table and are done with that career.

3. This is a GM option. I make the players pick first, but if you want to give them some say in their benefits rolls, then you could let them apply the DM after the roll.

4. All benefit rolls accumulated during that career must be rolled on that table. So, unless you failed your survival roll on your first term in that career, you will have benefit rolls to take. You should roll them before going into another career since you could change your intelligence or Education values, which could affect your rolls in your next career.

The order we have been using (and what is stated in the book) is

  • Roll for Skill
    Roll for Survival
Roll for Events (or Mishaps if Survival roll failed, which ends career)
Roll for Advancement/Commission + extra skill roll if successful.
