Character creation second edition question about commisions

Hello all,
This has probably been covered elsewhere but I have a couple of questions concerning commissions.

1 If you get a commission then you also make an advancement roll and succeed, do you rank up again in the same term?
So going from rank O1 to O2 in the same term you received rank O1.

2 The rule state that the commission role can only be taken in the first term of a career unless you have a SOC 9+, has this been officially changed because the errata says the opposite, you can only try for a commission in the first term if your SOC is 9+ other wise you can try any term after the first.
I suppose the confusion is that previous versions of Traveller allowed 1 role for commission per term until you a received the commission.

Thank you for your time and attention.

I can only help with #1: You don't make an advancement roll if you've gained a commission in that term. (Last line under Commission, P16.)

Thank you, I totally over looked that as the paragraph seemed to only deal with the events DMs.

I believe the erratum should read "unless" instead of "if". If you look at the reference to that erratum, it contains nothing to change the commission rule.

So, you only get a commission roll in the first term of a career, unless you have SOC 9+ then you get a roll every term, as the rule book states. The main road to commission is University or Academy.

Interesting, thank you for the post.
I downloaded a PDF of the errata and it contains the error.
