Centauri tactics against Narn - Need Help!!

Hey, all

I am going to be playing a huge (7-8 point War) game against a Narn opponent soon and was interested in knowing how I can advance on him without reducing my battlewagons to slag with his "30 Heavy Battle lasers and energy mines?

And before anyone asks, no, There are no provisions in the scenario for jumping in from hyperspace.

Thanks for any advice.

Is there Terrain? If so that should be utalised as you close. what scenario (if any) as again the rnage could start at around 24" which mean you are in range very quickly and you don't have primative boresight weapons.

Could take a Adira - GEG will help - esp against emines

Close Blast Doors as you approach whilst firing your own beams, Missiles from Demos, as you close try and get to the 8-12" sweet spot where most of his ships are fairly helpless.

Could risk a Liati as its dodge is good against beams but not against Emines. Primus is better than Dargan I would think. :)

This is in a campaign that we are running. His largest ship that he has bought is an Octurion. Lots of lower priority level ships. Demos, Vorchan, Darkner, Maximus, and Havens. He has 1 Octurion, and a couple of Primus,1 Liati, and 2 Magnus. This may help to give him some advise. I happen to play the Drakh and he beat me in the last scenario. I will be watching for advise as this I can use this info also, except against him.

Primus & Sulusts are your friend.
Centurions & Vorchans for flankers
The main force i'd use 5pts
Adira 2 pts
1 Primus, 2 Sulust 1 pts
1 Primus, 2 Sulust 1 pts
2 Primus 1 pts
Flankers 3pts
1 Centurion, 3 Vorchans x3 =3 pts (not sure if this breakdown is right)
if using only 7pts might consider either droping adira for octurion or the 1 pt of the flankers.

I forgot to add that it is actually a 6 pt war Carrier Clash, with the Centauri attacking. The same 2 players have a 4 pt raid with the Narn attacking.

The only good Centauri is a dead Centauri.

That aside, get in close and blast him. They have a lot of weapons, but just spread out so he can't get a cluster of your ships.

Yeah, you're going to have to get in close. The Narn are tougher than you at long range generally but once you close in, your weapons are far more destructive than his. They have a lot of close range guns but they tend to be either traitless or at best twin linked where you'll have all sorts of nasty stuff on yours. If he's using a mix of big and small ships, target the little ones first. Most Narn Skirmish and Raid ships pack a nasty punch for their level. Especially Ka'Tocs. They pack almost as much beam firepower as a G'Quan which is two priorities higher. Dag'Kars are a good target if he has them. Lots of firepower but on a very fragile raid hull. If he's playing T'Loths, T'Rakks, or T'Ranns save them for last. They're very tough but undergunned for their priority making shooting at them a waste.

A lot will depend on your opponent's approach to battle too. The Narn have two viable approaches to fleet design centering either around slow tough ships or fast maneuverable ones(which are also often tough, just not quite as tough as the slower ones). It's odd but with the G'Vrahn and Var'Nic the Narn can field a surprisingly mobile force at high priorities.

Centauri has the best of both worlds, if you have low hull the twinlinks shred you but if go in with high hull ships they slice you with precise beam hits & all this on their ships of the line eg Primus, Sulusts.

Pack all of your ships in to close formation so they are vulnerable to e-mines. Stay at long range. If you have to get close use your ships rear guns to shoot. Line up your ships so the Narn can use his boresite weapons effectivle. Use your superior fighters to lure him into a trap by flying them off the table ASAP.
