Campaign Scenario Battle Question

Mongoose
So if you are attacking someone in a campaign and you end up not allocating anything to that fight (e.g. you have too many other battles so you ignore that one) does your opponent in the fight gain the 2 xp for all his ship allocated to that fight and the +5 RR (if that would be his only victory in the round) even though no actual fight took place?

Wouldn't he also get the +5RR for successfully defending his strategic target (since there is already a seperate +10RR for capturing a new one), technically he successfully defended his strategic target because his opponent didnt show up. But no actual battle took place. That is the point of confusion im trying to get cleared up.

Yes, any bonuses for winning/losing a battle/strategic location still apply. It's up to each player how much (or how little) they allocate to each battle and nothing is a valid allocation.

So would that include XP gained for the winning side, since they did have ships allocated to it? This is of course assuming the opponent didnt show up so they would have any ships allocated to gain the losing side XP.

By rules as written my answer would be yes, in that just because you didn't "play" the game, it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Consider it a morale boost for the crew :P

We had this as a problem in a campaign...folks attacking each other but not fighting becoming a xp generator. While no one did this deliberately a number of players speculated about doing just that.

Crews do not become 'battle hardened' no matter how many exercises they engage in, and a non battle is just that. Aviod giving the something ofr nothing scenario.

Yes, he would. I thought you were referring to attacking a neutral target. Still don't think he could claim XPs since no actual battle took place.

one thing we did to overcome this was the flagship of the fleet gains 1xp for successfully manouvering the fleet at such a time that the enemy wasnt there or they scared off the enemy. obviously this would be a houserule but one that works for us and may do for you.
