By popular demand, the Armageddon points breakdowns

Yes can´t split further down. But can you buy up????
No you can't buy up after splitting down.

I get it is not possible, but low end fleets (Drazi) are force to take ships they may not want!!! You may want to take a solarhawk but not two!!
Seems you don't get it... so again, no you can't buy up after splitting down! You can only re-split one of your points, downwards.

So, if I understand it right, as a first order approximation:
1 point becomes 2 points for each drop in level, except 2 levels down which is 3 rather than 4 (1=>2=>3=>6=>12=>24)
"sub"-points can also be broken down under this scale, but starting at their own level in the progression, with some exceptions/limitations.
Is that close to correct?

Close, yes.

You can freely drop down in the ratios you prescribed. However, if you want to split up one of those that you just split up further, you can only do it for two of the lower priority.

So, you start up With 1 Battle point? How many Skirmish can I get?

Answer: 3. But it's not a great swap.

I could break down to 2 Raid. Can I then break down each of those Raid to 2 Skirmish?

Answer: No. After the initial breakdown, you can only break down 1 point of the remainders. So I can break down the 2 Raid, yes --- to 2 Skirmish (from 1 Raid) and 1 Raid (which I can no longer break down.)

This is much better than those 3 Skirmish, now, aren't they? Because of this, Armageddon puts a high priority on having competent ships at all levels below War. Most races have holes in here somewhere, which makes it -- I guess interesting: Narn Raid isn't very good, Minbari Skirmish stinks, Dilgar Battle is pretty substandard, Crusade Skirmish is a wasteland, Centauri Skirmish is a mixed bag (hope you like the Maximus), ISA needs allies at Skirmish level and doesn't have enough of them, Old Ones have large warts at Raid and below. Third Age is a major exception, and the League as a whole is fine. Drakh have good choices at most levels as well.

Can I break down those Skirmish points?

Answer: Only one of them. Again, after the initial breakdown, I can only break down 1 Point from these lower levels.

So after all this breaking down, I can get from 1 Battle point to 1 Raid, 1 Skirmish, and 2 Patrol.

If I'm in a 6 Battle fight, can I do this with each battle point?

Absolutely.

Hope this example helps!

Err, no. You can split a point into any of the lower ways (1 level down gets 2, 2 levels down gets 3, etc). You can split a War point into 3 Raid, and then split one of these Raid into 3 Patrol... for a result of 2 Raid, 3 Patrol ships.

Okay, I just got ACTA a couple of days ago. I'm looking at Priority Levels and it looks like an Omega is the same priority as a Vorlon light cruiser. I just can't see them as equivalent. Out of curiosity, why not a point value system? It seems to me that would keep someone from always using the ship(s) at the high end of each priority level (who wants to field the weakest ship from the list?).

Firstly you're going by SFOS stats, which are old. Both the Omega and Vorlon Light Cruiser were changed in Armageddon. 1 on 1, yes the Omega is poor compared to the VLC. But in a fleet they become more evenly matched.

The PL system is in place for ease of use. There are no plans to change it to a points system.

So should I go and get Armageddon? I mean, I just bought ACTA:revised and then found out the 2nd edition is coming out in a month or two.

To be fully up-to-date you'd need to buy Sky Full Of Stars, Armageddon and (if playing those races) Drakh and Dilgar books. Which is a hefty sum of money, and will be obsolete in a month or two. So unless you have either lots of money or very little patience, it's probably better to wait for 2nd edition :)

I'm a school teacher: lots of patience, no money. It's bad enough I just paid $5o for what is essentially a box of card stock counters when I already have a bunch of minis from B5W. And so I wait...

:D I'm new here and might not understand this poin breakdown clear. If any one could tell me if I understand this correctly.

If you building a sizeable fleet. I want to chose, lets say a raiding fleet for instants. When they meen by this

Raid
1 Raid
2 Skirmish
1 Skirmish, 2 Patrol
3 Patrol

:?: Is this telling me how many ships to use in the fleet. I am getting the impression in order for me to build a raid fleet. I would need a total 9 ship and that's not including the fighters.

Any help would be appreciated.

A fleet, or engagement is rated at a specific level - Raid. A fleet consists of a number of Fleet Allocation Points (FAP) at that level. So a game might be 5-point Raid.

Each raid point will buy you:
1 raid lvele ship (eg a Hyperion heavy cruiser) OR
2 skirmish level ships (eg 2 Olumpus corvettes) OR
3 patrol level ships (eg 3 Tethys cutters) OR
1 skirmish and 2 patrol ships.

Or you could spend:
2 Raid FAPs to get a battle level ship (Omega destroyer)
4 Raid FAPS to get a war level ship (Poseidon suppercarrier)
8 Raid FAPs to get an Armageddon-level ship (Nemesis)

So a fleet for a 5 point Raid-level game could consist of:
1 Omega destroyer
1 Hyperion heavy cruiser
2 Olympus corvettes
3 tethys cutters
with the carried fighters.

Or it could just be:
1 Poseidon
1 Hyperion

I hope that helps.

Sorry to ask a question that I am SURE has been asked a thousand times already... but does 2e have a new points breakdown or is Armagedden still legitimate?

Thank you.
