Brakiri advice wanted

Hi all,
Have been playing with these guys in our clubs campaign for a few weeks and wanted to get some thughts on the fleet. We are using in service dates up to 2261 so that Shadows and Vorlons are there properly. There is also a centauri, Earth (middle age), Minbari and Narn player.
So far got beaten heavily by the shadows at 6 pt battle, lost to minbari at recon run even though he was wiped out, narrow win over Earth and narrow win over centauri due to Holy War extra point.
Wanted to get peoples opinions on what works and what doesn't with the Brakiri fleet and any good tactics/combinations that people have found.
So far I like the Avoiki's unless there are many precise beams against them and think the Halik is a very good raid ship and swarms of fighter/bombers can be very nasty.
Downsides are the slow nature of many of the ships with limited turns, relativly short range of most weapons (18" is best on everything except war I think and the lance gun).
Don't think it helps that many o the battles i've fought I've been unable to use interceptor defenses because of beams/mini beams.
Thanks
Wiggy

The Brakiri fleet is a nice fleet, but can struggle against the beamy fleets. Shadows especially will beat you, as you don't have enough high damage weapons. by this I mean apart from your beams and the takatas mines, everything is single damage, and getting through shields can be a pain. (ok i ignored the lance there, my bad)

the Corrumai is actually quite a beast and worth tryign agains Minbari, less so against shadows as it is so slow! however with Minbari hitting on 4+, the hull 5 is less relevant, and it has a goodly number of hit points, plus 2 banks of SL beams means you can rotate using a beam a round (assuming you beat stealth) because remember that if you fail stealth when firing a slow loading beam, it is deemed to have not fired! give the Haltona a run out, grouped with haliks for broadisdes and AF cover, it's a great little ship. You say you like the Avioki, but don't mention the Kaliva, this ship is superb it can standoff firing at 35", or if you choose to move in can CBD for several turns before bringing it's secondaries in to fire, try sitting a couple at the back in a big battle, they will annoy the bejesus out of your enemy, though remember to pick interceptr light ships. In fact these ships should be used against the high damage but no defence Narn, a good few shots and the narn will styart to wilt!.

As you say, fighters, the falkosi isn't great but it is fast, while the riva and pikatos are great ant capitol fighters, but probably wasted agains the minbari and EA sue to their excelent fighter options, utilise these instead against shadows and narn, and sit them behind vorlon ships (but beware the vorlons AF fighters!)

You should also try some Ikorta's. Wait for the right crit and then bring them into Boarding range of the ship and take it away. Double VPs for capturing ships is always nice. My favourite fleet comp for a 5 point raid is this.

1 Avoiki
1 Haltona (halik vairant)
1 Halik
2 Ikorta's

and 5pt battle

2 Avoiki
1 Kaliva
1 Halik
1 Haltona
4 Ikorta

I would like to see MGP put a little more into these guys. I understand why they don't they don't make them much moeny and people don't play complain aobut them enought to go a little bump.

There's no need to "bump" the Brakiri, they're fine as they are. They have one of the largest fleet lists, several different fighter types, powerful beams, AP secondaries and they're a League fleet.

I am not saying to make more ships or add more fighter. Yes there beam are powerfuland yes there sec are AP but look on a whole they are a little behind. being a League fleet has nothing to do with it(at least in game terms). Look at the Vree they are league and good god they got it all. except a fleet carrier

Or any decent armour, or active defences, or beams...

There is nothing wrong with the Brakiri. Nothing at all. Their fighters are good, the Falkosi may not be a Starfury or Sentri but it's a decent dogfighter and can screen the Brakiri fleet defensively from enemy fighters. They have good bombers, very good. The have several decent carriers, multiple choices at pretty much every level and solid, no-nonsense weapons. Their beams are sick and even if they're slow-loading, that doesn't matter if the target is slagged from the first shot!

O ya your right 3 hull 6 ships , 2 hull 5, a stealth 5 ship and more AF than god. Besides that no defenses at all. I am not saying add more guns or add more ships. Nor did I say they are weak. I am just saying they need a light bump. twin link there F guns on attack ships or , twin link there P,S guns on broadside ships that small change would do it. IMO

actually, they lack sustained oomph, slow loading beams means they do struggle for a consostent approach against shields, but they are fine against most other things. I'd like to see a raid ship with a non slow loading beam, but thats all. (and it can be boresighted as per the other non SL beams!). . yes yes, i know the carrier has a boresight non slow loading beam at raid. but it is not an attack ship

A minor issue. Against shielded races they'd just need to concentrate several ships' fire for one turn to blaze through the shields and deal the damage. They already have a massive fleet list, no need for more ships, even though I agree a mid-level attack ship would be nice. Can't have everything.

indeed, there are things that need doing a lot more than the Brakiri, I just no longer use them against Abbai, as the Juyaca mauls me every time

Surprised the Juyaca is a problem... isn't the Coromai the equivalent with the 12 dice of beam? Haltona's do very well in the Raid attack slot. It's slow loading but the beam is nice.

The fighter swarms we've done with the Brakiri are tough, as in the all carrier fleets.

I am regularly surprised the juyaca is a problem, It has destroyed my EA 3rd Age, my Brakiri 4 times, and Wing Commanders Pak'Ma'Ra. It's become a personal vendetta, I spend so much effort trying to kill it, the rest of the Abbai murder me. but then in 20 plus games with his Abbai, happy has never lost, them being so weak and all.

given its weapon ranges - the few games I have seen it in opponents have ignored it and concentrated on its support ships and wiped them out - its a devestating ship at close range so they stayed away - but then given that mostly that was Minbari not a problem for them.....

ok then, as you mention minbari, the new mines employed by the Abbai. . .

as they go boom in the movement phase, do they give a bonus to shooting at that minbari ship?

but yeah, saying the minbari don't have a problem with them is like well, pointless lol.
