Think you hit the nail on the head in the final bit to the main reason the ISA lost too, Brakiri ships (especially the big ones) are stupidly tough, had you gone for the soft targets earlier (particularly the Vree, and then maybe the Drazi or Abbai) it could have been a different story.
That said, Kalivas are very dangerous and if you can bring them down its worth it but you need to focus fire from several ships to do it rather than hope for the best with one like the VCD (must say you were unlucky not to disarm it with crits though (a good trick you might try next time though is to use the Lasers and so on on targets you want to actually kill and lob missiles from the WS-2s at tough nasty thigns like the Kaliva's, chances are you wont kill them but you can go crit fishing and hope to disarm them at least without using your big guns to do it).

Yup. Vree were bit on long range for first turn shooting but abbai/drazi would have been possible or even brikorta(those aren't THAT tough since they are just skirmish...Victory should able to deal with one).
Sounds like a good plan :lol:
Now the kaliva soaked up two turns of neutron laser fire and was STILL able to shoot. Albeit moved at the speed of turtle but still shooting...
