Book Covers: Art suggestions (not CT style!).

EDG

Mongoose
So, for those of us who can think beyond the "black cover with text and a line" approach, let's come up with some descriptions of hypothetical alternate cover art for the books here. I'm OK with the corebook being the CT Style "black book with the red line", but any and all other MGT supplements (be they rules or setting books) are fair game for artwork.

Who knows, maybe Mongoose might see something good here.

The rules:
1) The scene must be appropriate to and evocative of contents/theme of the book.
2) If you can, describe it enough to allow someone to visualise it in their heads.
3) There must be actual artwork on the cover (i.e. not just text, plain colours, or lines).
4) If you want the covers to stay exactly as they are, please don't post here.

Let's see what we can come up with that's more visually exciting than a plain black cover with a colour line and text. I'm sure there are some good ideas out there. I'll kick it off, hopefully others can pipe in with their own ideas too.

760 Patrons

It's a shady back alley in the starport city. An exchange is being made - on the left in the background, some humans and male Aslan are loading a big crate with alien writing on the side into a grav truck. In the middle, a grizzled looking human male (looks like a mercenary type) with his back to us is shaking hands with a tough looking female Aslan. To the merc's right a couple of humans are grinning while looking inside a suitcase full of credits that they've just been handed by the Aslan.

Surrounding them all, the rest of the two groups are standing guard with guns out, ready for anyone trying to two-time them or interrupt the deal.

High Guard

The scene is a large shipyard orbiting a habitable planet. A large battlecruiser is being assembled, and we're looking out from a pressurised control station where the lead naval architect is barking orders to some engineers and designers. The background wall is a huge window looking out onto the ship (which is assembled enough to be recognisable), and we can see lots of gantries and robots and people in vaccsuits welding and attaching things to its exterior.

OR

High Guard

A naval fleet is in orbit around a gas giant in the background. Some of the cruisers can be seen heading down toward the gas giant to refuel, with the rest standing guard in orbit above them (hence "High Guard"). Some of these ships are engaged in combat with some raiders that are coming in from the side.

Mercenary

Battle scene on a planet. Some Broadswords are landing in the background. Explosions are all around, and a couple of grav tanks are firing their main cannons at a fortress (looks more like a "presidential palace") in the background, and fire is being returned from the walls of the fortress. In the foreground in a trench filled with soldiers is a mercenary captain is looking at the camera, yelling and motioning at his troops to charge ahead.

... I'm pretty sure that there's a B&W illo of a very similiar scene somewhere....

... I think it was a Keith brothers illo in one of the CT books or journals  ...

Snapshot: one person in light outfit fleeing while snapping back a shot at a following squad with heavy weapons and armor in pursuit along a starship corridor. Barely visible in overhead works is a small group waiting to ambush the heavies. Less visible is a floorplate being opened from beneath behind the heavies.

Spinward Marches campaign: spray of galactic arm fading into dark nebulae in the background. Perhaps a globular cluster hangs above the plane of the arm, barely resolved into stars at its extremities. In the foreground, exterior view of a busy orbital shipyard with a variety of ships.

Research Station Gamma: funky looking WWI/Victorian tech submarine at dock in foreground. In mid distance, a group of travellers and a chirper negotiating with a dodgy-looking sea captain who's giving the chirper the gimlet eye. In the distance, a starship prow rises out of the skyline of a golden-era city.

It possibly could have been. Maybe I had a dim memory of it (if anything I was thinking of a Battletech-style invasion without Mechs, given that their Union class dropships were blatant Broadsword ripoffs). Or maybe it was a case of great minds thinking alike :).
