That was genius. But moving on, I'm personally looking forward to this product. Always had a weakness for trade and the kind of trouble you can get a merchant into while traveling for the best deal. This sounds like it will help.

it's rare for me to be able to come up with jokes that people actually understand, and I've never played Paranoia either!

I like trade as well - I wrote a LBB trade program, then added T5 to it, and restarted from scratch deciding to make it more object oriented, as well as supporting Mongoose trade. Still have to actually read & figure out the Mongoose trade rules (and not sure how much I like the T5 trade rules actually, which is why I did the classic version first, but T5 buying is dead simple).
Yeah, my fascination with trade is not something I share with the rest of my group however, we were playing Rogue Trader and... I got three fighter types and no seneschals or rogue traders. I balanced it out, but if I ran the campaign setting in Traveller instead, mercenary might have served me well after all.
But I digress, does anyone think this book will contain a expansion of the Citizen careers as well?

I just hope it has a good expansion of the Merchant character, and a more advanced trade system to play with, as well as some merchant corporations & ships (which I think is indicated in the blurb).

And trade games are really better solo games than group games, I think. At least from my perspective, but as all I do is solo play at the moment, well, trade games work great to explore things.

I finally tracked down a relatively inexpensive copy of GURPS Far Trader, then I came here and saw this. :?

Oh well - I'll get a few months use out of Far Trader and then I can decide if I switch.

I'd prefer to see trading rules for creative haggling:

A: "Look, ten percent's the biggest cut I can take on this consignment, and I'd be cutting my own throat as it is!"
B: "Thirty percent!"
A: "Oh, come on, you want to take my daughter too? Fifteen percent!"
B: "Twenty five!"
A: "Come on, you're slitting my wrists! Aah, twenty percent, and that's my final offer!"
B: "Twenty it is! *spit palm* *handshake*
A: "Done!"
B: "Keep your daughter, though. She's rubbish in bed."

:D That sort of haggling.

Let's just hope it DOESN'T contain Dale Winton and SUPERMARKET SWEEP!

Seriously though, Mongoose do a great job and will probably add some nice goodies in on the side :)

That is indicated in the blurb. Meh, mostly just wishful thinking at this point. I really like the citizen/merchant options for Traveller and am happy to see Mongoose finally get to them.

Well, then we get into a balancing act. Someone will always want to play the "space marine" (in my group there's at least three) so have a trade game where the merchant and tradesfolk of the party get into a little trouble now and again. Supplies to warzones, trade along hazardous routes indicted by pirates, there's things you can do to keep everyone busy...
