Black Globe Generators

Am I doing these calculations correctly?

30 000 Ton ship: J4 TL 15
Jump Drive is 10% of Hull + 5 = 3005 Tons
Capacitor storage for Black Globe Generator is 20% of Engine size (pg 36 of High Guard) =601 tons
Each Ton stores 50 points of Damage = 30 050 points of damage absorbed.
Assume M-9 so m-Drive is 2700 tons of Drive.

Power Plant: Needs to generate:
Basic Systems: 6000
Jump Drive: 12000
M-Drive: 27000
Weapons: Assume a 4500 energy for a spinal and other bays.
Total is around 50 000 energy.
That means Power Plant is 2500 tons at 20 energy/ton

Discharge rate for a Black Globe Generator is "1% of the ship’s total tonnage multiplied by 10% of the tonnage of the ship’s power plant.", so 300 tons time 250 tons = 75 000 energy per round.

This does not matter much since the energy storage is only 30 050 points of damage. You could buy another 900 tons of storage batteries and make the capacitor = 75 000 points.

Are these numbers right?

Second question: Is there any way to put in the energy batteries that store 60 energy per ton and an inverter to siphon more power off the capacitors and run the ship on that captured energy? Basic systems and M-Drive are 33 000 points a round. Firing the Spinal drains off several thousand more points. We could call the ship the Tesla class battery powered ship. :)

Looks correct to me.

This is what you do when you discharge the capacitors, you run the ship with the power (according to CT).

Well I am trying to figure out if the more efficient batteries on pg 39 at 60 points a ton can be used instead of the 50 points a ton batteries that Black Globe generators use. I am also trying to figure out how a ship that uses 33 000 units of power normally can be powered by 75 000 units of power and not have wiring melt. Beyond that I am looking at if the 75 000 can safely be used up, can it be ramped up to be more effective and absorb more damage. As was noted in another thread there is a 2 X capacity for Black Globe Generators in the fleet combat.

And to point out the odd free energy of the equation. A single 1DD Particel weapon does 1-6 thousand points of damage for 1000 points of power. 1000 points of power is 50 tons of TL 15 fusion. 2 more tons of fusion gives the 30 points of power for the Black Globe Generator.

If you shot the Particle Spinal at a Black Globe you would average 3500 points of damage, that is 3.5 times the amount of energy you are putting into the Black Globe. Personally I can see a power plant and full scale industrial operation with a huge battery farm being built around a Black Globe. Screw the defensive value, this thing makes us 2 Billion Credits worth of electricity every 6 minutes. :D

There is no direct conversion factor between absorbed damage and power. The formula for discharging is wonky because it changes with size. Might work if you bleed off the energy as heat through the hull or something.

In CT you could power a ship by tossing nuclear missiles into the black globe.
