Banded Mongoose
What do you consider to be the best Mongoose Traveller product released and why? I've allowed two votes each on this one because I feel that many may choose the Core Rule Book as their first choice.

Update 1/10/2011: Starports and 760 Patrons removed, Darrian, Scoundrel and Vargr added. Allowed re-voting to take this change into account.

The Darrians supplement, by far the best description of
a culture of the Traveller universe I have ever seen.

I voted for Core Rules and Scoundrel, but those are about all I have off the list at the moment.

Hopefully I'll win the $1 million from the McDonald's contest and, after taxes and debts, will be able to buy some more.

Hard to say. I've really enjoyed the more recent books on Psionics, Robots, and Cybernetics, which are finally motivating me to do a "adventure" I've been thinking about for years. So I'd have to say because of that they are currently my top books.

I'd have to say the Core Rules and all three "race" books so far. I've really enjoyed reading them and pulling ideas from them.

Don't you mean five race books?

I voted the Core Book with all of the MGT additions that really set up the expansion books. Events and Mishaps alone justify its inclusion into the top-two list IMHO.

I picked the Spinward Marches supplement as my setting choice. A very good rewrite of the existing book with lots of plot hooks and hints at things. I really liked all of the background material on the Imperium as well.

Ditto - it's what I picked and why.

Zhodani & Darrians--why? Cultures and conflicts are essential elements of story telling--the crunchy bits about gizmo's & ships, & such etcetera etcetera do not tell a story as much as they are window dressing to RPG's.

YMMV,

Fairly predictable results, I think - though when the Campaign Guide and Vehicle Handbook both turn up (very soon now!), they may upset the cart :)

What about Judge Dredd? Or are we talking just Third Impirium stuff? If I am not mistaken isnt Traveller at its heart intended to be a "generic" set of sci fi rules and everything else either contributes more "generic" material or is campaign setting specific? There seems to be some pretty good non Third Impirium stuff but none of it made the list.

Actually you are right - the black "Traveller" books are "generic sci-fi rules" (much of the mechanic driven by how the physics and the 3I was written to work all those years ago) but everything else is "setting" material. Well, the "Adventure" books are basically 3I if not explicitly stated.

Everything else is "settings", again with a very tight tie between 3I and the Traveller mechanic.

Really need that Campaign Guide. That and the Core are the twin suns around which everything else will revolve!
