Battlefield Evolution in Real Life

Given what I'm doing now, and that we havn't been told to stop trying to integrate information collected by Land Warrior? I'd say its more than speculation on my part.

The XM8 Project was canceled on October 31, 2005.

However for most of this topic, i've been talking about the rifle. The XM8 rifle was only produced from 2003 till 2004.
If your infomation was correct, it would mean the SAS wish to order a weapon no longer produced, does that make sense to you?

1) Thats still less than 3 years ago.
2) Just because its not currently in production doesnt mean H&K magically forgot how to make them! There are still prototypes out there and if the SAS did indeed want them I hardly think H&K would turn around and say 'sorry were not making any more for you'
3) Like I said I've only heard very scarce rumours, no idea if its ACTUALLY true or not.

SAS membership is classified but recuits are indeed officaly in it. For security, the identity of SAS recuits is kept from the public and media.

Or to put it simply. As far as the publics concerned, no-one is officially in it. I think you are misinterpreting what Im meaning by the term officialy here. Im talking in terms of whats available outside of classified documents.

As far as the publics concerned?

As far as the public is concerned, we are only told what they want to tell us. As far as im concerned, my knowledge about the military comes from what has been deemed acceptable for me to know.

If the XM8 becomes an SAS issue weapon, and if the Land Warrior Program comes into full swing before the date set by the Army, then the infomation and resorces I have used have let me down.

If that ever becomes the case, then I apologise.

Untill then, it seems unlikely that the XM8 will ever enter service, and untill any offical word is given, the Land Warrior Program remains terminated.

Rather then question me, why not question what they tell the public.

LOL

Ah yes I did infact read that.
Well that topic is all about speculation. I came into this topic just to inform about the current status of the Land Warrior Program.

Well, the Civilian perseption of the Land Warrior. I don't think Congress has released its version of the budget yet.....

If thats the case..

Why would the Army say it was terminated without getting approval from Congress?

I remember they said it was indeed terminated due to funding reasons, they also said they didn't see it as a long term option.

Now that last part I found a little odd, after all the talking up about it that the Army did.

Again, it's a funding thing. They say 'We're cancelling this' or 'We're cancelling that', and most of the time it's because they want to get funding. The Land Warrior system has been touted for years, and the Soldiers who've displayed it seem to be comfortable with the amount of weight they're getting saddled with. So if the soldiers are okay with the weight, the system looks pretty easy to use, and it's a popular system, why kill it? Well, they want additional money someplace else, obviously. So by axing the funds there, they can get the purse strings to open up a bit more.

It's hard to do new fielding initiatives and Research&Development during times of war. Heck, the XM-8 by H&K was well on its way to being the next rifle, but due to costs, we're stuck with the M16 thanks to a lack of funds due to the conflict.

I mean, look at the F-22. We had to scale that back drastically....

Hmm, I did like the XM8, i remember seeing it in Ghost Recon 2, and then hearing about it being a real weapon lol... seems like yesterday.
Oh im sure the Land Warrior Program will pan out, just not anytime soon.

You seen the FCS - Future Combat Systems?

FCS looks very interesting, and I could see that being implemented into Battlefield Evolution complete with UAV sets, and that moblie 6 wheeled vehicle, called a mule I think?

FCS is another system that I get to work with. The FCS is a step up from the Land Warrior..

It's:
Land Warrior -> Future Force Warrior (FCS)

And yes, you're thinking of the Mule.

Mongoose, get some mules going in a few months time!
And a few UAV's while ya at it!

So you work with such systems hmm?
So you know first hand that these public statements by the Army are not what they really seem then.

Makes a guy question what he can believe. But hey you can't believe everything your told I guess... anit that the truth lol.

Trust no-one ;)

Seriously though, tis a shame about the XM8 (and for the record I agree that now the americans have dropped it the SAS are highly unlikely to take it up) but Im still hopeful that SOMEONE will revive it. It's just too cool a gun not to :P

Oh and yes, UAV's would be very cool (also handy for the Stargate Mod)

Research and development hey? 8)

paycheck you say? :P

Im planning to do the same for both my country and paycheck, but not R&D, I plan to do what the ADF call 'C&S' Combat and Security :D

"This is my rifle this is my gun, this is for fighting this is for fun!"

Well, despite the political talk, all this discussion is making me rethink my purchase of EFTF as my second force. Maybe I should go USMC, they certainly eat up points.

What really stinks about the XM8 being cancelled is that now the XM29 OICW is now even further away from being completed. (What can I say, I'm an OICW junky. :D )

On the subject of Land Warrior, why do I keep noticing similarities to Techno-thriller Sci-Fi here? A single battalion (or whatever sized force it is) is the only one to be getting next-generation gear in a war that is possibly reaching a critical point. Not only are they receiving this gear, they are actually skipping steps needing to actually field it (from what I can understand from the article I read about this, Land Warrior has yet to be tested at Fort Bragg, which is supposedly the final step before actual deployment).

A (relatively) small group, using next-generation equipment, heading into a war that is reaching critical.... who wants to bet that they single-handedly find Osama Bin-Laden?

Yeah... but miniatures wise all those cool drones, and the force recon guys look like Ghost Recon from the game.
