Battle report - Warlords Tourney Walsall

yep its a bad habbit mapping out moves
I blame Tank!
it comes from using too many fleets that require an all round approach to win
such as EA and Minbari...and I have to confess my third game against you bar the Tinashi sqd disapearing trick was just plan poor

a 4th Liati...NOOOOOOOOOOOO...that would be overwhelmingly good!
maybe we need a 3 same ship limit :-)
seeing as i only need three tinashi's :-)

so Triggy
will we be hearing your views on the Brakiri
I don't see your fleet on ebay so did they pass mustard?
or have they already been resprayed and sold to the Raiders?

well I have 6 Tinashi's
but it doesn't mean I'd use them all at once...ok.. Yes I would

It is my personal belief that ANY ship that Centauri_Admiral wants to use more than one of should become unique

And the fact that he always beats me with his Centauri has nothing what so ever to do with it..................................   8)

LOL, I always keep a fleet once it's (nearly) finished :P

Basically they did pretty well and one game aside where a single Liati ripped through my entire fleet I did fairly well with them.

Game 1
5 FAP Skirmish
Rescue
vs Centauri Admiral
1 x Brokados
1 x Brikorta
1 x Ikorta
1 x Shakara

1 x Liati
2 x Kutai

With the objective in the middle of a dust cloud that was sandwiched between two asteroid fields we were either going to go and play fetch or hit each other straight on. As it turns out, we met cautiously in the middle and I managed to take out both Kutais and the Rutarians for some minor damage and the loss of a few fighters. This meant that I had a massive advantage in initiative sinks and so long as I moved the Brokados/Shakara first I couldn't see the Liati doing enough damage and I'd eventually whittle the Liati to win 20-0. How wrong it turned out and the Liati annihilated the Brokados in a single shot (!) before passing a Stealth roll next turn against the Shakara in the dust cloud (!!) and vapourising it too. From here it was a lot trickier and although I reduced the Liati to about nine Damage points, and had a Brikorta survive, I couldn't finish the job in time and the score ended up 20-0 to Rich.

Game 2
5 FAP Raid
Assassination
vs Keith
1 x Brokados
1 x Batrado
3 x Ikorta
2 x Brikorta
1 x Shakara

2 x Tigara
2 x Teshlan
1 x Leshath

For this game we came fairly head-on against each other, which suited me just fine as I needed to get into range of his ships for purposes of Stealth. Just so long as I was careful to cover myself with a few Falkiosi to provide Interceptors, kill his Nials and to reduce his Stealth then I could see a straightforward fight. Largely I was right as the Scouts hid and I wore the Minbari down in a battle of attrition in the centre. One unexpected bonus was having my target ship (a Tigara) left on one Damage point and with a Skeleton Crew left at the end of turn 3 so I promptly ordered her surrender and took the bonus VPs. Careful play ensured that I didn't lose many more ships and finished off all but a Tigara by the end. 20-0 to me.

Game 3
5 FAP Battle
Space Superiority
vs Star-Lynx

2 x Avioki
3 x Haltona
1 x Brokados
2 x Brikorta
1 x Ikorta
1 x Shakara

2 x White Star Gunship
2 x White Star
2 x White Star II
2 x Dag'Kar

This was always going to be a trickier matchup but I felt confident in picking a main target for the fighters and beams whilst spreading the pulsar fire as much as possible then the White Stars would fall. There was a period of cat and mouse for the first four turns where the Gunships held a jump point before finally entering the fray. However, I hadn't committed and even once the enemy arrived, I always made sure to keep as many of my priority ships out of range of the ISA weapons.

I took down the Dag'Kars relatively early and got to work spreading my fire on the White Stars. The game was relatively even in kills but I had a superior position later on with most of the enemy ships turning but my fleet in amongst them and not many return shots. I took down a whole White Star and Gunship, whilst only losing an Ikorta and the Brokados and when the enemy reformed in the dust cloud I brought the might of the entire fleet's beams to bear in a single turn. Suffice to say, in combination with some admittedly good rolling (probably killed about one and a half more White Stars than they should) the entire fleet except for one White Star was killed. I felt that the ISA would have done better here to get completely hidden and try and flank me again as having a single round of fire where my entire fleet could unleash their slow-loading beams in return for a lot of ships being out of range was not a good exchange for Shane. 20-0 to me.

Overall the fleet worked well and although it requires a lot of coordination, so long as you can forward plan well then the Brakiri can be quite nasty. As Ken couldn't this time, I'd like to make the "I was robbed" claim on the basis of some stupendous Liati shooting without which I feel that this fleet would have done very well...

Thanks all for a great time and I'll elaborate more on the Brakiri tacticis in the Brakiri thread.
