1. boarding actions - launch breaching pods & shuttles - "using this special action, you may use any & all troops on board your ship to launch a boarding action on a nearby enemy ship... ...see page 42 for the full rules on conducting boarding actions."

q1. do you have to have breaching pods & shuttles on the ship to perform this action?

2. initiating a boarding action - "a boarding action can be started in one of 2 ways - either launch breaching pods & shuttles special action or by moving one or more breaching pods into contact w/ the base of an enemy ship or space station (braving any anti-fighter defences on the way!). note that the special action requires certain requirements to be fulfilled, as described on page 15. once a breaching pod has survived any anti-fighter defences & is in base contact w/ the targeted ship it may not be shot @ by any other weapons from either the target ship or another ship as the breaching pod will have clamped onto the ships hull."

q1. does the target ship, or any other ship, get anti-fighter defence if the launch boarding pods & shuttles special action is used?

3. conducting a boarding action - "troops attacking from breaching pods always attack before defending troops."

q1. are not attackers always using breach pods (launch breach pods & shuttles special action)?

No.

No.

3. q1. are not attackers always using breach pods (launch breach pods & shuttles special action)?

No. This refers to troops using breaching pod flights, rather than the special action. Breaching pod flights are quite difficult to get into contact - they are slow, can be easily destroyed by fighters and and suffer from anti-fighter fire., so they have to have some advantage.

Why does it seem that you are contridicting yourself between answer 2 and answer 3.

It seems that it would make more sense to all interecption via escorting fighters and AF fire verse all attacking boarding parties. I have yet to see a reason that the special action becomes invisible to all defensive actions.
