Assembling Federation ships

High guys, trying to dry fit a POL and a Constitution, and the engine struts don't fit in the holes on the sides of the fuselage. I'm guessing they're meant to?

The frigate I'm putting together in the meantime is going together fine.

Does this resin need washing before painting?

I haven't needed to wash the resin minis.

Also, be sure to use a white putty; the green stuff I was using on Fed ships takes alot of coats of white paint to cover it up adequately.

You may need to clean the joints - I had to do this on the engine struts/hull joints for a few of the ships and just had file down the ends and clean out the holes to fit.

Just be careful not to be to hasty and keep test fixing

On these notes.......how to best glue them? I've had a BIT of experience with resin models before and with those other models plastic glue worked, but with those models here (federation atm) it didnt seem to work at all? (using super glue now)

Is there anyone using plastic glue? (if so how?)

Well I'm developing a small pile of pieces that have been misaligned in the moulds and can't be used (so far 2 frigate engines, dreadnought hull and central engine, and both police ship bodies have been misaligned but on different axes).

Plus side I have assembled and ready for undercoating a frigate and both old light cruisers.

On these notes.......how to best glue them?

I've seen ScoutDad say that he used a two-glue system using SuperGlue and Apoxy. The SuperGlue sets quick, and then the Apoxy sets strong.

I'm using SuperGlue Gel so far with good results.

Squadron white Putty where needed. I find it's really important to spend the additional time puttying up all defects; the final results speak for themselves.

Any sort of superglue works well, resin loves it. Just be aware that it sets more quickly than it will with metal models. I use zap-a-gap with no problems.

Actually, the more of these I do, the less I tend to use the "two-glue" method on the resin minis.
The pourous nature of hte resin allows superglue alone ot work quite well.

I will revert to the two-glue method when I start gettign the metal minis, though.

I had no trouble with just super glue with the resin models but I'm assuming with the metal I'll be pinning and super gluing.
