Armageddon for the Dilgar

OK, so instead of listening to new ideas, which i do believe quite a lot of people said "Do a homebrew and submit it yourself. Might get put into S&P", as soon as an idea is put out it's shot down INSTANTLY without even thinking on the possibilities for 5 minutes. So again t comes back to "We got our Arma ship, you didn't. We don't vcare if you feel left out, we're just gonna disagree with everything you say on principal just because you DARE disagree with Mongoose's stance on this matter"

Sounds like it to me. Quite disappointing really, but there you go. It's attitudes like that, that stop people playing the games. :(

I would suggest that people would suggest something REASONABLE and BELIEVABLE. Like oh I don't know...Smaller star bases that might actually exist? Variant hull of strike carrier? Or for Dilgar variants of their smaller crafts that might conceivably existed?

Not every race should have armageddon level ships(or battle/war for that matter in case of raiders). Especially if game is designed well enough that they aren't required to win(if they are then there's bigger things to worry about). Each fleet should maintain it's character and raider character isn't "let's kick crap out of minbari's while being outnumbered!". How did EA lose war against minbari anyway if raiders could alone beat them 1 on 1? Raiders who by their very nature don't have latest gizmos?

People are trying to be constructive, and I think that its important to remember that this is a GAME - it's not a TV SHOW.

Game needs to have suspension of disbelief. The second human RAIDERS(we aren't even talking about mercenaries but RAIDERS, THIEFS, PIRATES!) start running around with stuff more powerfull than 2 main warcruiser of one of the oldest races it just lacks to be good game.

Do you stuff, thats great i love it.

I love preludes work. Aliens input for a new Brakiri ship was great as well.

But ideas need some serious thought, not the:

If you have a good idea, come up with it. Do an armageddon lvl Dilgar ship and post it, well be happy to hear.

But youve made a mess of yourself by whining about Armageddon not having anything about your fleet. Sry its just to new. That is my opinion. Not the one from MGP. Might be the same, i dont care. Now after having effectively brought up the community with constant whining, Tenacious big lettering didnt help you either. You win arguments by being calm and logical, not by going all emotional over people.

Be constructive, but be good about it. Posting trash (Sry the shipyard idea was just too bad) isnt going to help.

Theres raiders and theres raiders......

LONAW raiders are better represented by using few raider ships with lots of LONAW mixed in, yes ofc you should paint the ship differently.

But raiders as the ones seen on the show are the lowliest of the low. Uhh yes used by a Centauri but still human dreg.
 
I fail to see how it's so different. Raiders are, by definition Pirates AND Mercenaries.

And as i've said, since we're moving into a new Era where there's a whole heap more advanced tech available, what's to stop the raiders getting some and backward engineering a bit of it to suit their own uses?
 
They get the Nova whatever.......havent had a glimpse at arma yet, so i dont know it.

Raiders are not mercenaries. They raid stuff.

For definitions on mercenaries, they get paid for their work. They dont necessarily use cobbled stuff, but rather top of the line equipment and second line military stuff.

Raiders aka Pirates are dregs of the galaxy that make do with what they get.

A good thing is Battletech or Star Wars. Mercs get stuff thats nearly as good as military stuff, but tend to have smaller operations overall.

Pirates get the lowest of the low, in small quantities, excluding base stuff like maybe lowtech fighters and infantry.

Oh really, so we're playing Battletech now, or at least by the sounds of it, Battletech seems to now set the standards for what the differences between Raiders and Mercenaries are?

In B5, Raiders also act as Mercs. Simple as.
 
No im looking at a variety of different universes. I even did mention Star Wars, they have alot of Mercs/bounty hunters and pirates.

Also the real one partially.

B5 is an SF universe, they tend to take stuff from each other.

Now yes pirates might take some merc jobs here and there, but they tend not to do that well at it.

Raiders have very different fleet paradigms than raiders, making them not very good at corssover jobs.

That's what gave them nova which is in itself overkill for their work anyway. And even that is stretching it.

Come on its a fun show, but as realistic as B5......With the slight difference that we know one is SF and one is not.

Black pearl? Yes pirates of that time were mostly privateers.

And yes my Narn have ships form the bottom of space too, won by a treaty with an undead squid. Theyre worth 2 Armageddon points and have front arced Lighnting cannons too ^^. 4 alone on the fornt arc.

Raiders do get involved in large-scale operations. Thats why there is a picture in Armageddon, of 2 Battlewagons with a Ka'Bin'Tak!!!
 
Well, since space is now patrolled by Whitestars, WSC-2's, White Star Gunships and Carriers, plus independant races now have some minbari level tech, i don't see a bigger Raider ship as being used for hunting down cargo ships, rather for protecting the raiders against the races they are preying on.

It's simple Weapons escalation,

the criminals get guns, so the police get body armour. The criminals get armour piercing rounds, the police get guns. The criminals get bigger guns, etc. It happens. Why the hell would raiders continue to use the same old ships when EVERYBODY they prey on got severe tech upgrades with the formation of the ISA.

And besides, this is totally off the point. I've tred to justify why the Raiders 'could' have gotten an Arma level ship, and it has been simply dismissed without consideration, just the same as the idea that the Drakh and Dilgar should have been included in this years MAJOR acta release.

But then again if you want raiders as mercs, you can always go the LONAW route. stuff like that. Or Centauri, i could see many cent mercs using Vorchans......

Lonaw fleets can already take raider stuff......


Nice of you to cite stuff, that some ppl did not have a chance to see yet. Incorrect stuff form MGP is also very common. for example the Milani is flying backwards, though id love to know how that happened.,....

BTW this years second major release is two fleet books. Incidentally those that got nothing in the other major release. I love Dilgar, and i have no problem with that. Heck i even like Drakh, but the Ships never appealed to me.....lowprice CGIs.........
For me Armageddon is only important for the rule changes, new ships are VERY secondary.....


EDIT: I hope this thread doesnt get locked. I love discussions like this, and was kinda thinking we were still civil.....But then yeah i love to argue........i will admit i use a little mockery here and there, but that is never meant in a hurtful way. And after surviving WoW this here would rate as very civil ^^. (aka: WTF You arent even lvl 60 NOOB...for those of you who know the game)
 
Hey folks...this is getting a bit out of hand. The forums are a good place to voice opinions and debate ideas; but this is bordering on simple verbal fist-fighting now.

Less inflammatory threads have been deleted in the past.

If it doesn't clear up and become a civil conversation, I personally will ask Matthew to at least lock it down.

I'm all for peoples' ideas and opinions...but come one folks, we are all fans of the same game. We can be civil, can we not?

If we're talking real world, it's almost as difficult to kill a supertanker, and actually harder to kill a large container ship (better compartmented), as it is to take out a supercarrier- if you do it the hard way by shooting at the ship, instead of assaulting it and taking out the crew. Ton for ton, they're pretty fragile, and easy to cause economic damage to- but actually destroying one? That would take more missiles than any (Arleigh Burkes excepted) modern frigate or destroyer, and most frigate or destroyer squadrons, have, just to keep pounding it until it fell apart.
