Well, assuming it happens at all, it's been a long time coming.

My involvement in this one was fairly small - I did the ship concepts* as I recall, and was the line editor during the writing process. This was back in about 2003 or 2004 if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure that Solomani/ie OTU starships would be doable, even under an OGL for the ship design system. Only Mongoose and Avenger can publish in the OTU, so I suspect that staying within the T20 license was the only way to put this product out.

* Eg, Kormoran class commerce raider. Named for the Kormoran, a German commerce raider that sank HMSA Sydney under mysterious circumstances.

T20's ship design rules are different to MGT's anyway. MGT's manoeuvre drives take up much less volume than in T20, while jump drives are the opposite. Powerplants are also treated differently, with T20 requiring the designer to take into account energy needed by ship's computer, energy weapons and drive performance, as well as agility rating from excess production, while MGT's is a hell of a lot more simpler.

There are pros and cons to each set of rules. Neither is perfect.

Well, for my 2Cr, they seemed close enough to use in play, and more ship designs is, well, cool. Just a treatment of Solomani designs is welcome -it's been sorely lacking in the OTU thus far.

So, political and ethical ramifications aside, I'll be glad to check it out. Congrats for at last having a copy on your desk, ....with more when it shows up on mine...
