Any possibility this means Mongoose will do new FS RPG stuff

Mongoose
I guess the topic says it all. Now that Mongoose is doing Noble Armada, is someone going to do the RPG? Traveller: Fading Suns anyone?

isn't red brick a mongoose "partner" or some such, and aren't they due to release a 3rd ed of fading suns?

Hiff is correct. A third edition of Fading Suns is planned and will likely be published through the Flaming Cobra imprint. Which means Red Brick writes it and produces the document then Mongoose publishes the physical book.

RedBrick LLC has the Fading Suns license. Third Edition will be out next year, but for more details on things related to Fading Suns, check out the "State of the 'Brick" article, coming to our web site (link in my sig) in the next few weeks.

What would be nice is a bit of linking material between the two - so that the GM can pull together an ACTA game thrown into the middle of a FS campaign (where a questing knight pokes his nose in the wrong place and a couple of raiders get sent to prevent him reporting back, for example).

A quick guide in terms of points sizes and ratios for quick/major and easy/hard encounters would be good.

Equally, some guidance for adding the player characters to a specific ship or fighter (and their effect on it for special actions, initiative, etc, and it on them - i.e. what trials and travails may entail for a knight and his marines trying to escape a ship wracked with various criticals).

ACTA can play pretty well multiplayer, so with a bit of guidance there's no reason it can't play well multiplayer-versus-GM.

I must have missed that one. My first copy was the pre Sky Full of Stars box set.

It doesn't surprise me, though - when you've people simultaneously producing RPG and wargame, it only makes sense to tie it up properly.

I was looking at the ships and the designs are different, for example the Odyssey, is quite curved in the pictures of the models, but the one I did for FS isnt.
