You give yourself too much credit. I do not care about you, really, so I am not out to antagonise you at all.
And when I say "the game is crap" it is not a personal insult (unless you are the author of said game, perhaps). And even then, it's about the object, not the person.
Quite different from "I will come and get your wife" etc. etc. But it seems that lots of people here takes games as personal insults, and resorts to real personal insults to drive the point. I will not come to this, though, and joke on the wife of anyone. I will happily keep on crapping on d20, though, whenever I feel.

Finally, I don't care a IOTA about RQ. So, crap on it as you wish. I like BRP and Stormbringer. Feel free to crap on them as you wish, too. But if you start getting personal, I feel free to get personal, too.

Regarding the big roast...we will see it soon with d20 Conan  . RQ has been around here for the last 30 years, not the same fate of d20, it seems.

Dude, it's funny when I respond to someone who has made clear attempts to be insulting and they claim, "I am not out to antagonize you at all." Right man, your previous post was the epitome of graceful speaking meant to enlighten all and had no malicious intent at all.

I never said anything about anyone's wife, but I GOT the analogy Strom was making. Some of us have devoted a significant amount of time and effort with OGL Conan. Some of us are happy with that time spent. Some of us take offense when guys like you just go on and on about how much you dislike our game of choice and are actively trying to bring it down on the board created to promote it.

I don't care about BRP or Stormbringer. Much like my feelings of RQ used to be, my attitude is 'meh' about them. If you like them, great. You want to use them to run Conan, have fun converting it. But d20s been around longer than RQ as D&D. D&D 4e is selling in the top 2,000 books at Amazon. RuneQuest...that's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the list at the 450 k range. If you think that's got a chance to beat d20...well, keep dreaming.

Yawn.

On the subject of jokes, if its funny, its ok. Theres no boundry or limit to human appreciation of a joke. Jokes often thrive on bad taste, or pushing certain social taboos, its what separates us from the old monkeys. I suppose theres a thing about context as well, and maybe some subtltiees get lost in translation to a faceless internet forum. And, tangentially, its really difficult to make a two handed or stereo argument on forums. People sometimes just like to be extreme or take offence.

I appreciated the humour King.

1. Who the hell was talking about a joke?

2. Who the hell was talking about King's joke?

3. Who the hell was talking to you?

I think weve already established that we cant communicate. I thought it obvious. after I had reviewed your piece, that I was talking about someone else. I was making two separate points in the same post.

And on a forum, you dont really talk directly to anyone, its a public declaration, you can PM if you want to talk directly to a specific individual.

Oh, and sure, I love beer: but in the place where I come from, comment such as yours, even jokes, would leave you with a split skull (have you seen the film Gomorrah?)
Are you talking of these movies about morons who want to make money but can't even built correct building and let thus people, including themselves, being crushed to death because of a slight eathquake or a flow of water?
Then I'm pleased I don't have your respect because you aren't worth what you def.cate or ashes in an ashtray.
Nah, just to note that jokes are not taken everywhere the same. You can never know how people reacts to someone's supposed "jokes", when they are evidently juvenile, moronic, and denoting very little appreciation of the limits and differences between bad taste and good taste; and cultural differences. You know you cannot make a joke about the Prophet with Muslims, right? Well, my people does not take well jokes about their families. Know the others, study and learn, before speaking. Ignorant.

Now, YOU seem to put a woman and a game on the same level (NOT I), seeing as for you, a "joke" of definitely bad taste (quoting Strom: "another level of inappropriateness - which I ignored because it was so juvenile") is equivalent to discussing a game system.
You look like an interrogator trying to extract confession of guilt at any cost. May be you're the savage as you defined yourself but a savage working for civilized people. May be you find thus your entitlement to split heads.
It's a good thing they taught you to read and to write though, but they forgot to teach you how to think and make use of it.

Yes a joke can make use of people and thing at the same level or death and laughter. It seems there are examples aplenty in the movies or on TV, though I consider at least 90% of these comedies destined to IQ-deficient people (e.g. like savages). So you don't have my respect but I still wish you a good and pleasant entertainment.

So you find interesting going to the level of the IQ-deficients. A perfect exercise in self-identification. My compliments! And while you are at it, try to broaden your cultural horizons. From the number of your posts here I wonder what your real life is.

Let's all try and keep it civilised from here on out shall we.

Play nice.

Sorry Moderator, my fault. I should have seen that critics to a game can easily get transformed into personal insults by people who has no decency. I made an error in opening the thread.

I can assure you that there are limits. Try joking with a muslim about the prophet, then tell me the results.

MODERATOR MODE

Back on topic now or I'll lock this thread.

You want to discuss the dos and dont's of allowable insult/humour topics, do it somewhere else.

There is no topic to discuss I guess. I just opened the thread in a sort of apologetic way, to say that I may not like d20 but I like the modifications done by Mongoose. So the dislike is not a personal insult. No way.

:D

Nothing gets people more nervous than mentioning the M word.

But, back on topic. Really, Im sure everyones position on this is that Mongoose have done a good job with the OGL as regards the Conan rpg, I dont think anyone would disagree there. I dont understand though, why some people get all irrate enough to start flying insults around because some people want to talk about alternatives, seems like madness to me. The again, its a topic that wont go away.

I usually go down to your level once a day. It is called the duties of The King.
In your culture do you bring plates (marked with your name of course) in the closet or do you still use fingers to put your nurturing ground into your mouth?
I tried to broaden my horizon but it always ends up with the form of a U-bend with people like you.

And now you're insulting all those who are posting more than you, including the moderator, Vincent darlage, and many others (because I guess you're happy with what you call your life). I think I supported this game more than you (I was the one who release a poll to ask for a campaign), but it's jerks like you who are destroying its support.

Try reading back and it will rapidly become clear.

The problem is not that some people want to discuss alternatives. The problem is that you cannot start a thread about the d20 system without it being hijacked by people rubbishing the whole system and exalting their system of choice, and if you insist on claiming that d20 is a decent system you are insulted.

And then criticised for being rude when you get tetchy as a result.

Oh, and told that you're not being objective and are narrow and close minded because you disagree with the other person.

It has got a little old.

OK, now that most sane people (i.e. 99.999% of list readers) have completely switched off from the MRQ/OGL Conan argument... how about 'Traveller Conan'?

I want 'Conan MY-SYSTEM™' and I want it NOW!!!

Well, that is unfortunate, not everyone is going to be thoughtful, insightful, and not everyone is going to have a discernable point. A number of people do though. I wouldnt ever insult someone just for liking a different system, and theres a good amount of posters on these boards that think the same way. There always going to be a minority of dufuses (dufii?), however, its possible to hear a conversation in a loud room if you want to try. There are some that tar everyone with the same brush. and that doesnt help.

And, darn it! Im going to reply to this!

There is no God of any description, and Im certain there is the possibility of humour in that.
