And so it begins.....

I've finally bought the last tool I need to get started in on my models, a pin vice set. (I checked the bore of the stand bases with my electronic micrometer first to make sure I got one of the right sizes)

Now it's a pity the only local seller of Rackham paints closed, they had some nice pastelish shades I liked for WS paint jobs.

Now before you all die of shock this doesn't mean I'll actually start building and painting my WS, just that I have the nlast of the tools I need to do it. Drilling holes for the bases was going to be an issue.

Arcane Miniatures sell Rackham paints with free postage and 10% off I think.

I find Rackham paints very strange, they require watering down and as a beginner this is hard to get the right consistency.

A pin-vice?
I've never used one! I guess I havent ever had to put metal minis onto a flying stand though (In the same way ACTA minis are put on).

Isn't it one of the signs that the end of the world is nearly apon us when you start to paint your fleets LBH

Well unless Ir eally get something organised or get an unstoppable urge I might wait till the painting guide gets released, although there is a painting guide 'lite' in the old 1E E-M War supplement.

Yep LBH, a pin vise is a necessity in my estimation. A powered drill just doesn't have the control necessary for those small holes, so only a "manual" setting will work. Besides, you don't break those small bits nearly as much when using hand control. :D

I've got 500 very small holes to make on a project and I'm not quite half way (sigh).

Well I have a good 4 pc PV set, a crap GW Pin Vice, 2 RotaCraft model drill things (one fixed, one variable speed), and an 18V battery power drill.

I doubt I'll beusing the last one much.

Sure you will. I've seen that Drak mothership on the forums recently and it looks as if you'd need that drill for a proper mounting hole.
