Ancient design- Knightship

Hello,

Over the next few weeks, I'll be posting various Ancient designs, at a rate of approximately one a week. I used the Babylon 5 Wars 2nd edition War of the Ancients (BW-173, 2001) produced by Agents of Gaming as a reference source for my design conversion. If you think a design is too powerful, too weak, just right, or has an error, please let me know. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Andrew Norris

Knightship (Ancient)

The Kirishiac are a militaristic race and conducted many campaigns against other Ancients. To battle the Ancients, the Kirishiac developed advanced weaponry like the Phased Gravitic Torpedo and superior defenses like the ultra-dense Hardened Armor. The Knightship is smaller than the Lordship and relies on its maneuverability to stay at optimum firing range to make the most of its long range firepower. The Knightship design resembles an egg with some spikes dotting its exterior.

Phased Gravitic Torpedo/ 35/ F/ 10/ Super AP, Precise, Double Damage, Ignores Shields, Gravitic Energy Grids and Interceptors.

Anti-Gravity Beam/ 12/ F/P/A*/ 4/ Mini-Beam, Accurate

Anti-Gravity Beam/ 12/ F/S/A*/ 4/ Mini-Beam, Accurate

* F/P/A covers Forward, Port and Aft Arcs and F/S/A covers Forward, Starboard and Aft Arcs.

Notes: Hardened Armor follows all A Call to Arms Babylon 5 Space Combat rules unless otherwise noted. A unit with Hardened Armor has the equivalent of a Hull 7 with Beam and Mini-Beam weapons hitting on a 5+. Attack dice rolls of a 6 are not considered automatic hits against a unit with Hardened Armor. In addition, for successful hits, a roll of a 7+ on the standard attack table is necessary to score a critical hit which also counts as a solid hit. If Hardened Armor is critically hit, then the ship is treated as having a standard hull of 6 until it is repaired.

I've always loved the Kirishiac--First Ones ready and willing to use their advanced tech against anyone! The Shadows win for coolness, but the Kirishiac could give them a run for their credits.

If the Shadows asked "What Do You Want?" and the Vorlons were "Who Are You?", then what was the Kirishiac Question?

I loved the old AoG rules that allowed the small orbiting pods to act as fighters. Not sure how to represent that in game...

Any race which fights all the ancients at the same time doesn't frighten easily :)

do weak weapons still hit hardened hull on a 6?

Fluff would suggest no?

I'm not sure what the official ruling is on this area but I'll give you my own take on it and the way I had intended it to be.

Weak non-beam weapons rolling a 6 to hit would not damage a unit with a hardened hull of 7 because it does not equal or beat the Hull score of 7. In addition, if the penalty of -1 for weak applies to all attack dice (AD) results, then the to hit roll is really a 5, not a 6 which would make it even less plausible for a weak weapon to damage a unit with hardened armor. In any case, I don't think the current rules took into account Hull values higher than 6.

Also, under the same rationale, regular non-beam weapons with no AP or Super AP capabilities, would be unable to inflict any damage to a unit with a hardened hull of 7. And only precise weapons that hit and then roll a 6 on the attack table have a chance of causing critical hits against Hardened Armor.

OK thats fine - at present weak weapons hit both hull 5 and 6 on a 6 - so it may be best ot put some of the above in the text about hardened weapons?

:D

Thanks for pointing this out. I appreciate it.

"What's in your wallet"?
