Since the aging process is anchored in the human genetic makeup, it
seems to me that Traveller-style anagathics, as a permanent medica-
tion, does not really make that much sense.
The best solution for the "aging problem" (if it is seen as a problem)
probably would be a genetic modification, presumably undertaken only
once after puberty, perhaps with some kind of retrovirus to introduce
the necessary changes to the individual's genome.
This could give humans a "reptilian" self repair ability on the cellular
level, enabling the human body to keep functioning at "youth level"
for an almost unlimited time without any need for an additional expen-
sive medication.
However, this would still leave a couple of "minor" problems with parts
that are not "designed" for long term use (e.g. teeth), including some
parts we did not yet realize that they have such limitations (e.g. per-
haps the brain's ability to store memories).
