An Open Letter To MGP

I'll now add the little taunts to this list that happened at Guadalcanal between the two sides at night:

U.S. Marine taunt: "Tojo eats s**t!!!"
Japanese response: "Eleanor eats s**t!!!" (Mrs. Roosevelt, the 1st lady)

I think this was at the battle of Edson's (bloody) Ridge iirc.

Still, since Eleanor was definitely butt ugly, I'm sure the Japanese took the perpetual nasty look on her face to mean that she was indeed dining on feces. No offense to a GREAT lady, but she was just plain MO-fugly...

Hmmm. I wonder if the same thing is going on now as we speak in Iraq and Afghanistan:

Insurgent: "Hillary eats camel dung!"

GI: "Hey, a$$hole! She's not the First Lady anymore!"

Insurgent: "You lie, infidel! You try to shield your harlot from the wrath of Allah!"

GI: "Seriously, dude. She's not the First Lady anymore."

Insurgent: "Oh? Is this true? Well then who is?"

GI: "Yo."

Insurgent: "Yo? Yo who?"

GI: "I forget, but thanks for talking long enough to get a fix on your position...Rattler Two Zero, target acquired. Fire for effect."

Oh Scipio! And I thought guadalcanal was crappy enough, I never thought they smelled like wet dog. Oh out of irony there is a japanese bear-fighting dog in my house :lol: . I wonder if the poo argument will happen between the US marines and the PLA forces :)
 
Scipio and Gir, if you watch the old sci-fi movie "Enemy Mine" the two main characters do something similar, but the human misinforms the Drak (sp?) that the human "God" is called Mickey Mouse, which later the Drak tries to bash with similar banter as that which happened at Guadalcanal. I think the script writer might have known about the true history (at least I like to think so). :wink:

That's a great movie! Thanks for reminding me that I have to add it to my DVD collection! I probably haven't seen it in almost ten years!

Didn't "Jerry" say something like "Well, your Mickey Mouse is just a dumby!" ???

I always liked the ending: the human pilot "sings" as part of a Drak religious ceremony.

Ah well...getting us back on track...

SST needs a DETAILED and COMPELLING background (in addition to TOP QUALITY minis).

Units need lineage...
Battles need narratives...
S&P needs a standing propaganda piece...
And the whole UCF military needs to be presented as a coherent and believable whole.

Don't EVEN get me started on the Skinnies or the Forth!

Yeah, just think of all of my ramblings as "bumps", lol. Yes, "Jerry" said something like that and then said "I'm sorry" later. :lol: I liked the movie because it showed how the main characters learned to get over their "bigotry" and needed each other to survive. I'll never forget at the start of the movie where Davidge's face lights up when he is dogfighting. :lol: Watch this movie then get "Hell in the Pacific" :wink: and also "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" :wink: . You'll be surprised at the parallels. I'd like to see all of what you suggested, to get back onto the topic of note.

Hmmm...I very vividly remember "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" ("Batman" was the mission commander, right?) Good flick...now I've got to send ANOTHER order to Amazon!

"Hell in the Pacific." Was that Lee Marvin? Another good one about enemies becoming friends is "None But the Brave." Frank Sinatra was in that one...

I have heard of that oldie, but it was actually on space channel's 'top ten countdown': science fiction movies :lol: . Ahhhh getting stuck on some foreign planet with your enemy, then getting saved by him then vise versa then, realising you need food and must find food for him too, and.... I'll stop now :lol: . SO how did all this contribute to talking about movies inwhich enemies become best friends out in the boonies?
 
Y'know...I was thinking today (always a dangerous thing for me to do!).

A previous post mentioned campaign books, and I think that's a good idea, but maybe the following can go it one better...

How about campaign/division (or unit) histories? Plenty of opportunity for fluff there! Remember the card Hiro did of my 5th MI Division? That got me going. A combination unit history/campaign book, loaded with both historical and current game time scenarios as well as detailed background would really allow people to get down and dirty and immersed with a unit.

And it wouldn't have to be limited to the MI: you could do Skinnie clans, the Forth military (particularly their followers of the "Prophet") and it might even be do-able for the Bugs.

Basic info for all forces in the main rules, more detailed stuff in these follow-ons for those that really want to go into depth. Based on the pre-order figures for another company's upcoming chapter-specific book, this is the kind of stuff a LOT of gamers want, and would serve as both an enticement to get new players as well as a vehicle to keep tentative players interested and maybe pull them in farther.

I floated a similar idea to MGP a while back, and they said they weren't currently interested, but maybe they can give this concept another look?

One way this could work is if MGP sold these only as PDF's for say £4 ($8) from the website: saves money on printing and requires no shipping charges.
