An idea I've always had for traveller

What about filling the tanks with anti-laser aerosols?

Gives a bonus against said weapons then you just vent the stuff when you're ready to refuel? But it adds to refining time in order to flush out the system?...

Once said tank is blasted open by laser fire, the aerosols immediately disperse into the vacuum of space and then does nothing to protect.

If the metal vapour created when the laser cuts through the hull does not
render the laser inefficient, there is very little hope that the aerosols in the
tank would do so.

1. Ice as ablative armour - away from engineering; deepspace monitors, acting as well as camouflage?

2. Fuel tanks as armour - ironclads used coal bunkers for a similar function.

3. Ice coated on the hull as fuel - still has to be processed, and somehow returned to the internal tanks.

4. Metal hydride - anything solid should act as some form of armour.
