African Nations and rebels

Hey, was watching blood diamond today (excellant film) and was thinking it would be great to have african armies - government troops and rebels. also means you can do rebels v other rebels as well.
probably already been asked for but thought would see what people think of these.
 
I want to see them. Pietia has already made some cards for them. If MP doesn't do them, you can find plenty of 1/72 aka 20mm models of these troops. Or there are a few good 28mm metal lines that will work well also. Mofo miniatures for example. (larger than MP puny 28s aka true 25)
 
The African Union would be good to see, depending on how MGP wishes to portray the Africans. They plan on getting a force similar to EuroForce called African Standby Force up and running around 2010...

It'd be interesting to simulate something like the current Somali/Ethopian conflict with an African Union on one side and the MEA on the other.
 
Thinking on it further, you could probably do an African Union-style force easily enough with MEA government forces, subbing the Zulfiquar in for the T-55 and similar tanks.

I was thinking of doing something similar with some of my 28's last year.

MEA types from DDD, and Mongrel (i think), and Black Scorpion

African types from Brittania, and Mongrel

I was also going to throw in my DDD and Brittania US / UK forces, along with older Israeli forces (Mongrel) as international peacekeepers...

But, along came BF:E... *sigh*
 
Yes, two new factions next year should be:

African Warlord
US Army

Make it happen Mongoose or by god I'll whinge some more on these forums.
 
I'd rather see Russia or some other Asian country sooner than the US Army TBH. With Russia, India or Pakistan you open up a lot of opportunities for combat where Asia, the Middle East and Europe meet.
 
the US Army should NOT be a new faction, they should be a sub faction that works alongside the USMC. (Similar to the different nations in the EFTF), not exactly sure how much they will add or change to the USMC apart from a couple of vehicles. However there is demand for them so it makes sense to release them.


Russians must be the next faction released if MGP has any sense as there are loads and I mean LOADS of people who would love to see them in the game. African warlords will be cool, so will something from the Indian Sub continent. It would also be nice to see something from Central / South America.
 
I'd rather see Russians and somebody from Latin America... Russians for the obvious reason. Latin America provides a lot of possibilities - say:
-the drug cartels (or one very strong cartel) took over some of the smaller/weaker countries in Central America and northern part South America
-the US, occupied in other regions was not able to react fast enough
-the cartel soon becomes worldwide problem as it operates without any interference from home government, China, EU and US send their forces to make things right again.
The only problem here is that the cartel thingy could upset some more sensitive people...
 
Don't forget Hugo Chavez and Castro's Cuba and the rise of Socail democracy, that could also be the founding of a force from Latin America.

Hiro mentioned that the originalplan for the US faction was to be a full Expeditionay force, mixing marines and regular army. And there's a lot of nice things you can put in a US Army force - Bradleys, Strikers, Green Berets, Airborne, Rangers, Apaches...

Yes, this could be a second force. Brazil a part of the "commie Latin Americans" as well, providing the resources necessary for such alliance to become an important player.
 
I'd say Columbia deals with Chavez before it gets to that point though. And Cuba will probably change after Castro's death, since his brother doesn't seem to have what it takes to keep going. As for a drug cartel taking over a country, it would have to be really big and move really fast, least the other cartels decide to take it on or even one of the neighboring countries.... problem with being a big fish is that the little fish will band together against you.

As long as they bring out US Army next year I'm not fussed with other factions. Vatican Papal Army probably wouldn't work though.
 
Actually, I'm working on a BF:Ev mod that would have the Vatican as a faction...

But it's good to see you caught on to what I intended by Southern Pacific Economic Concern :D
