And peter cushing played quite a few characters in the old hammer horror movies that were not TECHNICALLY evil but were pretty nasty nonetheless (witch buring psyhotic sorts etc).

He was the Witch Finder General, wasn't he? Not a pleasant character, but a lovely man.
