Mongoose
So I have been away for a long while. I cam back as I have seen the Star Trek poster. Can someone give me some idea whats going on please? Races, time when it should come out ect. Thanks everyone its great to back!

Ok, I will try to give a condensed view of whats up.

Mongoose and Amarillo Design Bureau have entered into a Joint Venture Agreement to bring ADBs Star Fleet Universe (the Setting of Star Fleet Battles). In the Agreement 3 project were kicked off to start work on right away; 1) A Call to Arms: Star Fleet, 2) A new line of resin miniatures to be used in all Star Fleet Universe Game Systems, and 3) a Prime Directive Source Book for Traveller.

Now what is the Star Fleet Universe? It is a setting that Task Force Games and its successor ADB developed with a Licensee granted through Franz Joseph Designs. Later ADB and Paramount worked out their difference allowing the Star Fleet Universal to use some elements of the Star Trek History. Specifically things they had already designed based on Star Trek TOS and TAS. Because of the nature of this license it is not revokable by Paramount with out just cause so there is no expiration date. Also because of this no elements from any other Star Trek Project or Series can be incorporated in to the Star Fleet Universe. So no Movie Stuff, TNG, DS9, Voyager or Enterprise.

The Rces/Empires that will be present include The Federation Klingons, Romulans, Tholians, Orions, Gorns, and Kziniti. Along with other Races developed bu ADB over the pas 30 odd years.

There are several threads scattered here in the Nobel Armada Topic covering what is been discussed up until now.

The license is odd...

The actual Starfleet battles license is NOT with Paramount but with the author of a technical manual.

Thats where the ships come from..

All TOS

Kosh127, those and far more. The Star Fleet Universe has expanded far beyond the Klingons, Romulans, Federation, Gorns, and Tholians. The Kzintis, Lyrans (and Lyran Democratic Republic), Hydrans, WYN Star Cluster, Orion Pirates, Vudar, Andromedan Invaders, and Inter-Stellar Concordium are all part of the Alpha Octant of the SFU. Each empire has its strengths and challenges. They'll be introduced slowly but surely to give ACTA: SF players more empires to explore and opportunities to "blow stuffs up." :)

Not to mention that each new race added is additional rules and more ships to balance against all the existing fleets to ensure fair and enjoyable gameplay. Unfortunately this kind of balancing and even agreeing on what is balanced takes time.

very true. I talked to the guy that wrote the rules for Star trek combat simulator and he had no idea about this. What I am trying to get at is if those ships will be in there or he ones from premovies the "old" Enterprise, or if things like the "upgraded" constition class will be in there.

Not sure what Star Trek Combat Simulator you are talking about. If you had talked to Stephen V. Cole (aka SVC) about what was in Star Fleet Battles he could have told you. And by way of that what will be in the new Joint Venture Line.

But to cut to the chase the only CBS/Paramount like designs you will see will be the Klingon D6/7 the Federation Heavy Cruiser, the Romulan Warbird, and the Tholian Patrol Corvette or Destroyer. There will almost certainly never be a NCC-1707-A Enterprise class ship in SFB so there will most likey never be a NCC-1701-A in A Call to Arms: Star Fleet.

ADB does have a Advance Cruiser (CX) design but it still uses Round Nacells not Square ones.

Hope that helps.

Edit: Ok there is a chance. If we as gamers buy the ever living heck out of the new Joint Venture Stuff. Maybe, Mathew and SVC will see what Paramont wants for a license fee to do the rest of the Star Trek stuff. but I though I heard that they had already sold that right to Wizkids or something.

I believe the Staship Simulator Kosh is referring to is the old FASA ship combat simulator. I t came as a module with the old FASA ST:RPG. There was a line of miniatures that accompanied it. Or could be purchased as a seperate wargame.

It worked well with the RPG, but IMO SFB was better for wargaming ST battles.

Besides TOS is real Trek!

The original Federation starship mini's were plastic. The Klingons were always lead. I wonder if TF games sold their original molds. Because yes you can buy those same minis from other manufacturers now. They come in plastic bags now instead of blister packs.

The original D6/D7 you didn't have to glue on the warp engines, although if memory serves, the C8/9 always had to be assembled.

However the casts of them you get now are pretty sucky.

While it might be interesting to see some FASA designs, I'm pretty happy with the range we'll likely be seeing initially.

I hope to see some new stuff at the people @ mongoose. New Stuff meaning new ships that we have never seen. Make a Bird for the klinks please. 8)

Since the Klingons never had "birds" until the movies and the movie era is not covered by the ADB license, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an official Klingon bird.

Don't be a buzz kill man :D

That's us cosmic killjoys  We really want everyone to be happy but there are somethings we get touchie on. Bumping up aginst a certain company's IP is one of our strange little quirks

Now hyperthetically what might be cool to see sometime is Mongooses' take on a Klingon E3 Escort. This is the smallest capital ship in the empire and coincidentally it has never had a mini made for it. Now we all know that in the SFU you would never put a cloaking device on a Klingon ship nor would you ever replace your Disruptors with Photon Torpedoes. Would you? I mean such a thing could never be published so why would some one want to think about how to do it.

There won't be any official stuff that violates IP.

Unofficially I've already bought a micro machines Reliant ready for this coming out.

Khan!!!!!!!!

And I got several FASA miniatures ages ago which will do nicely as proxies for various SFU ships, e.g. Excelsior as a Federation DN or CV, and Reliant as a Frigate. I also have something Klingon which is FASA's own design, I don't know what it's called because it doesn't appear in the Star Trek Combat Simulator fleet book, but it will probably proxy for something like a D-5.

I believe STIII was originally going to feature Romulans, so the Romulan Bird of Prey was built. Then the management wanted to use Klingons, so the Bird of Prey became Klingon. Nevertheless, if I use my model, it will be a proxy for something Romulan, as will FASA's own Winged Defender.

yes the Romulans were suppost to be the bad guys for STIII, when word got out via a leak harv bennet(or so i was told) changed the script. the FX shots were already done though and there was no time or desire to spend money on changing them.

Klingons with photons and cloaking device's, sounds like the mythical Kaltic Free States to me.
