ACTA: SF My Federation Fleet (Pics)

The Legend

Mongoose
Hi Guys, as promised here are some photo's of my Federation. These are the most complete models from my collection. The fleet will stand at 22 ships once completed. This along with the Romulan fleet box and Klingon Fleet box I'm working through will certainly leave me enough work to get me through till xmas. Hope you enjoy them.

If anyone is wondering why I butchered a perfectly servicable Battlecruiser, the model I got in the fleet box came with a constitution hull rather than a Kirov so I used the parts to build an objective. Don't worry though Mongoose were kind enough to supply me with a replacement.

Is the base paint scheme just a light grey undercoat with a white drbrush, as I wondering how to get tha effect you have - and with m paint skills a simple drybrush technique is perfect.....

Very nice work, especially the various white lights outlined in blue. (Perhaps you could do something similar to the engines on the Light Cruiser, with bright orange outlined in red.)

This is something I've looked into doing on my Fed stuff. I've done it on the finished Klingon D-6 and it looks awesome. I'm just trying to get through everything as quick as possible for a huge game!

:D

Wow! That battle damage ship is Freakin' Awesome! I must mangle one of my resin ships to do the same. Any comments on best technique to melt/break-it-up. I assume that's a resin one.

Also cool to see someone else who bases the shuttles like I do.

Overall great looking figs. Don't forget to show more.

I primed the miniature then painted the whole model with GW foundation Adeptus Battlegrey. I then applied the first colour, Vellejo Model Colour Light Grey as a webbrush over. The drybrush over this was a 50-50 mix of Vallejo Light Grey and Vellejo Off White. When drubrushing I favoured the areas I wanted to look as though they had running lights on. E.G. the registry markings. I then thinned down Off white and applied this as a highlight to the same pannels I favoured with running lights and the edges of the saucer section. Lastly I used Badab Black direct from the pot into the groves and panels to add definition.

Dark grey sections are Vallejo German Grey highlighted in a 50-50 mix of Vallejo light grey.

Sensor Dishes are Shining Gold from GW and I think that about covers everything. :D

Nice work as always. The wreck's great, looks like the Doomsday Machine's had a light snack :)

Thanks man, I used the footage of the Constellation from the remastered Doomsday Machine as a guide for the colours and damage. Glad everyone seems to like it.

It's the only way to have the shuttles like. I did the same thing to my Noble Armada fighters too. Looks much better with a bit of elevation. I'm thinking about re-basing all my Babylon 5 fighters in the same manner. Just need Mongoose to release the fighter bases separately.

Battle damage eh, well you're quite right about it being a resin ship. I got a constitution hull instead of a battle cruiser hull for one in my fleet box. I got a metal replacement, which is a lovely model and much higher quality than the resin models. Anyway rather than wasting it I stuck together the saucer and hull section before drilling randomly into the hull and saucer. Once I'd got enough damage there I drilled a hole in the engineering section.

Once done with the pin vice I used a pair of clippers to enlarge holes and make huge divots in the hull. It's really a matter of personal taste as to how much you use this, but all the chunks from the saucer section are done usig the clippers and then clipping at the edges to create rough damage. I knife was also used but the clippers and drill did the majority of the work.

Hope this Helps mate.
