Can I put in an early plea to have a few more options / variants for a couple of the fleets - like the Klingons.

Not beacuse the ships are not great - cos they are but really to stop having points left over - which is annoying- a few variants here and there would help out a lot.

eg:
The Federation gets effectively 18 different ships
The romulans get 15
The Gorn get 11
The Kzint get 11
The Klingons get 10....

a few weapon re-fits (or earlier versions) here and there would give a bit more wiggle room :)

I'm sure we'll eventually see most, if not all, of the Federation Commander variant ships transfer across over time. Maybe even carriers, gunboat tenders and other stuff that didn't make it into FC.

Hopefully - I am struggling to work out a 1000pts fleet for February that uses all the points  its easy with the fed spread of points but harder with the Klingons

Be nice to spend on those odd points ons something - like in Noble Armada on troop upgrades, psychics etc.

D7C, D7, 2x D5, 3x F5 would have been my choice for the tourney (sadly I can't make it), and it's bang on 1000pts and all in the fleet box.

Interesting. Can't wait to get the book and see what's in store for my Romulans. I'm giving away my Kestrels to my Klingon buddy, hope that doesn't leave me with a big points gap somewhere. I figure with the high end hawks and low end eagles should give me a good spread.

I really do hope that they bring stuff into this game from SFB that never made it into FC. Carriers/fighters and tenders/pfs would be awesome for a fleet based game. And of course a lot of the variants could just be handled as "upgrades" to the existing ships without requiring specific models.

hmm not keen on the D7 except the Command Variant - +1 In is great but the phaser 2s are a bit shor ranged.

am looking at either

1 C8(*), 1 D5W, 1 D5, 1 F5, 1 E4 and a D6 (995)

(*) yeah I know a Dreadnought is risky but it proved very reisliant in lastgame I played and the other three crusies should be able to support...

or perhaps more sensibly - broader range and more in sinks

1 D5W, 1 D5, 2 xD6, 2 X F5, 2 E4, (1000)

D7C should be packing 5 Phaser 1s in a boresight that is only 1 less than a Connie and you still have 4 Phaser 2s as well.

First Kzinti thoughts...

3 x CM, 1 x DW, 3 x FF. 990 points, all Agile, 28 Drone dice.

Replacing the DW with another CM would give 1,000 points exactly, but I'm limiting myself to what I've got painted and ready to go right now without proxying anything.

Edit: On closer inspection...the DW has more damage points than the CM (WTF?!), and the CM's phaser-1 arcs are...odd. The DW might just be a better ship.

Does the D7C get the Command +1 trait? The C8 does not because Klingon ships don't have flag bridges (they have security stations instead). If it does, that's a weird inconsistency because the D7C should not have a flag bridge either. Either they both should get the Command +1 trait or neither should.

OTOH, Klingons get +1 initiative as a faction bonus so it's as if they have an unsinkable flagship in every fleet.

The D7C gets command and extra phasers - which makes it a good ship :) I think the vanilla D7 is not that great compared to other options.

The D8 does not - a Command variant would have been nice.

+1 Iniaitive is great - although the Kzinti and Romulans get the same - its similar to Noble Armada in that there is very little difference in Iniative in the fleets, worst is -1 best is +1. All the main fleets thus far realaeased get command ships (Romulans get about 4)

Maybe - have to see what they come up with - still awating official call on plasma carronades for MGP - this may be something they want this way but with a command variant later.......

:)
