ACTA - New Splitting Points Rules - Official Ruling Please

Hash

Mongoose
With the advent of Armageddon a new splitting points rule is upon us and I'm not quite sure how it works so woould appreciate an official answer please:

My example: 1pt @ Battle

Now I *know* that I can split my Battle Point into:

a) 2 Raid
b) 3 Skirmish
c) 6 Patrol

OR I can split my already split points (although only one) into

d) 1 Raid, 2 Skirmish
e) 1 Raid, 1 Skirmish, 2 Patrol

HOWEVER can I also split such that I receive:

f) 2 Skirmish and 2 Patrol ?
(splitting from 1 Battle to choice b then splitting ONE skirmish point to patrol)

Again, an official answer would be most appreciated.

How about:

g) 1 Raid, 3 Patrol?
(splitting from 1 battle point by choice a, then splitting ONE raid point into 3 patrol)
(slightly different to f, the "PL skip" is lower down)

I'm not official, but believe me we spent a long time trying to fathom this one out...

Basically, each point buys you two of the level below. One (and only one) of those two can be split to buy two ships of the next level down. And so on.

And, yes, I know that leaves a problem when you split 1>2>3, I've never figured that bit. It should have been 1>2>4>8>16.

Wulf, that doesn't address the question at all.

We know that if you split the point into 2 of the level below, you can then re-split one (and only one) of them, and so on.

We also know that 1 point can buy 3 ships of 2 levels below or 6 ships of 3 levels below, etc.

The question is, can these rules be combined, as in the examples (f) and (g) above?

I'll leave it for an official reply. I'm sure I know how it works, but I've tried writing an explanation 3 times and each time it didn't sound right...

Hoping I can make my questions easier to answer by illustrating my options:

I know I can do the following straight splits:

OPTION A

OPTION B
SplitB.jpg

OPTION C

OPTION D

I know that I can also have multiple splits, the first down to two of the next level down and then splitting ONE of the already split points down indefinately like this:

OPTION E

However, can I also "combine" methods (straight and multi) split like this?

OPTION F

OR (Thanks for reminding me on this one Burger)

OPTION G

...any help?

I don't think you can combine the two methods, ie you cannot use option F and option G in Hash's example. However, I have found ituseful to combine the two when writting scenarios, so it isn't neccesarily 'wrong'.

Thanks Greg, am hoping you are wrong here though as I think there is no logical reason not to allow both methods.

Im still hoping for an official ruling though :?:

Well done Hash, very clear explanation there with the diagrams. I would like it if options F and G are valid but would settle for at least having an official answer so we all know where we stand.

Hi guys, sorry to clutter this, but just one further element of clarification.

Do the new splitting rules completely replace those in SFOS (i.e. the special splits for BAttle and War points that were given in SFOS, they are defunct now, yes?)

LBH

Hi guys,

No reason you cannot combine the two methods!

And yes, the SFoS system was replaced by Armageddon.

Is it worth then posting what valid combinations can be taken for common or proposed scenarios

e.g. 5 point raid
5 point battle
1 point armageddon

and making it a sticky so that people can reference it rather than try and work it out and make mistakes and as a result potentially turn up at a tournament with an illegal list

am happy to do some of this if required

cheers

I think this covers it? ;)

No, I did make it, but I used copy and paste extensively in doing so :D
ie. copy the War point splits into Armageddon and add "1 War, " to the front...
Anyway this is rulesmasters so lets be quiet before we get deleted ;)
