The other battle this turn is a 5 point War - Call to Arms, ISA vs Shadows over the Jumpgate.
The ISA fleet had taken quite a beating lately. They could barely muster 3 War points, let alone 5! So how would they do against the Shadows...
Luckily the Shadows forces were split, since they had another battle. So the line-up was:
1 WS Carrier, 1 WSC-2, 5 WS, 6 TBolts and 4 Starfury (3 and a bit War points)
vs.
1 Shadow Ship, 6 Shadow Scouts, 6 Shadow Fighters (4 War points)
Deployment: ISA won initiative, even with the Shadows getting their scout re-roll! Hash wasn't used to this and was confused for quite some minutes, wondering what this "deploy first" concept was.
Turn 1: The White Stars started off slowly, while the carrier launched fighters at an alarming rate. 2 deployed initially, and 5 more launched (Scramble Scramble succeeded automatically due to CQ 6). The Shadows approached cautiously too.
Turn 2: One White Star charged forward, and CAF'd a Scout. This seemed to enrage the other scouts, and 4 of them came in for a close-range bloodbath with the White Stars. The Carrier launched its final fighter, and moved into attack position itself, and the Shadow Ship moved to attack it. The Starfuries were on Scanners To Full duty, reducing stealth on 2 of the Shadow Scouts. The scouts tried to redirect fire on the WSC-2, but all failed dismally. TBolts attacked one scout, doing minimal damage, and WS Fighters attacked another, leaving it with 1 damage point left! Then the scouts opened up on some of the WS fighters (killing 2) and the WSC-2, putting it to half damage and crew. The return fire destroyed 3 Shadow Scouts. The Shadow Ship damaged the WS Carrier; 7 hits caused 4 crits, doing a total of 13 damage and 18 crew, -2 speed and no special actions.
Turn 3: The Shadow Ship started to get very worried after seeing what the WS Fighters did to his Scouts. But he realized he couldn't run off the board this turn... so he put himself in a position such that he could fire on the WS Carrier this turn, and run off the board next. One Scout ran away near the edge of the board but not quite off it yet. The other 2 put themselves in attacking position on the WS Carrier (or was it "keep WS fighters of the shadow ship" position?). All the WS turned to bear on the Shadow Ship and the scouts. One (undamaged) scout died to WS Fighters... then the other died to WSC-2. The Shadow Ship took another chunk out of the WS Carrier, getting 9 hits and hurting it quite badly (2 more crits, but no really good ones). All the WS and the carrier fired on the Shadow Ship, reducng it to about 100 damage. It didn't metter too much though because the Shadow ran off the board next turn.
So a much-needed win for the ISA.
Death toll: 5 Shadow Scouts destroyed, 2 WS Fighters lost.
Conclusion: Hash rolled pretty badly for the whole game, but the WS CARRIER ROCKS!!! It took 2 direct hits from a Shadow Ship, admittedly the 5 crits it took were all relatively minor, but it was still not crippled or skeleton crewed.
