I see you veterans play far less aggresive at the begining... I can see why. There´s no point in risking the whole thing in a gamble...
Well to be fair we wanted to set up quickly so that has artificially reduced the number of battles a bit. Really though you get 10RR for a new Strategic Target and the easiest way to do that is take an empty one - no risk, full reward!
Also, we would definately take more risks in a two player campaign but with multiple players, should you come off worse in a battle it's not just one opponent you have to worry about - if the others sense weakness they come down on you like a pack of wolves!
Re: Design/Engine
Thanks for the positive comments guys - I can't take credit for the design though, it's based on an opensource template that you can grab from here...

(It's number 4 on the guys site which is pretty cool)
I've just added a few pretty pics and changed the images
The system map was made just googling for images and a little use of photoshop. I'm not smart enough to automate too many things so the fleet lists etc are done the hard way (i.e. getting the players to enter data into a spreadsheet / database)
EDIT:
How to make a System Map
You need a graphics editing package (e.g. Paint, Paintshop Pro, Photoshop etc) + access to suitable images (try a Google images search)
1. Start with a suitable background pic:
I used the one above after looking for "solar system" on Google Images
2. Erase the content you don't want (paint over it with black) using the graphics package
3. Cut and paste new images of stellar objects (planets, asteroids, jump gates etc) as new selection onto image where you want them. May have to resize images depending on how big you want a particular planet to look!
4. Add text using the graphics package (I used a B5 font, Serpentine Bold) and you end up with something like this...
Obviously takes a little time with the graphics package but its mostly cut'n'paste and resizing stuff. BTW most of the planets are actually pics of Earth or the Moon, just resized, rotated and some alteration of the base colours.
