ACTA: Battlestar Galactica - Some input please...

The ship only has a 1/45 turn - it loses its flak fields on side, with a Cylon Basestar pouring missiles and raiders into it - it wont want to spend turns trying to bring the ship around (indeed, the Cylons could probably simply move to sit in its disabled arc). It'll want to roll over and use the guns from the other side.

Fair enough, but how often is this actually likely to happen in ACTA rules reall? Especially in this version with far less crits likely. Secondly it actually renders those crits a bit naff if they DO occur if you can simply flip the ship over. It's not that I have anything in particular against the idea, I just think that movemtn in ACTA as it is is nice and very simple and adding roll mechanisms is the start of a slippery slope to fqr more complexity....

You could argue it's pretty pointless in FT - since all you need is 1 thrust to turn your ship to any heading on the next turn anyways, why would you bother rolling? I think it's much more handy in ACTA, where the only way to approximate it takes two turns of SAs (all stop, then All stop and pivot, or two turns trying to come about!)

Erm no.... this is only the case in the OPTIONAL vector movement rules. Personally I like said vector rules but none of my local group will use them for various reasons (which I personally disagree with but what can you do? /shrug)

In the fluff, the file mentions that baseships toend to react to the flow of battle slower than battlestars as a result of a democratic v autocratic command structure. However, the Cylons have a +2 init bonus to the colonial +0. Does this make sense? From the series and the fluff here, it seems the colonials should have the init advantage, superior planning where the cylons are in complete control from the beginning is the only thing that seems to favor the machines (and overwhelming numbers, of course).

Also, the range on the Mark II Viper's missiles is only 3". Shouldn't it be 8", same as on the Mark VII? Or at least 6", comparable to the Raiders?

Would it make sense that ALL fighter missles should be Limited Payload? I don't recall seeing any small craft unloading salvo after salvo of missiles. Maybe make Limited Payload allow for 2 salvos, that way raiders, for instance, have to chose to get 2 longer range firings or go for one heavy punch with a nuke.

PAX!

In the episode where Hotdog nearly blows up Kat with chunks of asteroid, under the command of the new CAG while Lee goes off to Kobol with Donnie Darko's mum, it shows the Viper's missile loadout. Can't remember off the top of my head but I think they had about 6 missiles.

The Viper II has very poor targeting equipment and the pilots would have to get quite close as the guidance is no sure thing. As opposed to the Mark VII that has advanced equipment allowing it to gain a lock and keep it. But then the Viper VII gets gonked by the Cylon virus for all its fancy computers...

The Raptors need their range increasing to 8" though.

I will have a tinker with the weapons as the Vipers were giving me the most problems.

I think for book-keeping reasons and simplisity its best to stick to one round of firing. But I agree that they should all have the trait.

Shouldn't the raptors have to choose between an EW and a combat payload? Battlestarwiki suggests their weapons and EW suits are swappable pods.

When I have time to work on the file some more I am going to give the Raptor a page by itelf with three varients hopefully.

Sorry, I always assume FT players use vector rules - our playing group has never used anything else! :) But yeah - you can argue that it makes the crits naff, but then it is 3-d space, so losing weapons on one side wouldn't be a big issue, since all it requires is attitude thrusters to make left=right

Its not french. Almost looks Latin but Id guess its most likely Italian as why on earth anyone would write a rule set in latin is beyond me (well unless its an ancient Roman wargame ;))

Hahaha... the second page yes....

Because it is just background text that pretty much writes itself I just used filler text until I can have time to do the writing.

The filler text is called Lorem Ipsum. When laying out documents it is easier to look at the layout with random text instead of real text. And I have not replaced some of the text yet through a lack of time...

The counters will be added to the document when it is finished but at the moment if anyone wants them just pm or email me. As it is they take it from being a 800K document to a 2000K document.

I am also goint to be re-masting some of the fighter counters to make Cylon Raider Waves and add text to the counters to designate the different Raptors and such...

Oh... there is a third draft incoming with even more ideas from the forum intergrated into it, I'll post a link when its uploaded.

Ah so it WAS latin :P Dindnt think of the whole Loren Ipsum thing, I even read irregular webcomic too so really should have picked up on that (if you dont get the reference then I highly recommend a look at www.irregularwebcomic.net

specifically in this case http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/cast/shakespeare.html

Warning! This may be just about the geekiest page on the internet! View at your own risk :P

A Fan made video tribute to the Pegasus. I must admit this is what inspired me to get this all going... To me this clip represents the best imagination of ship to ship combat in space.

It helps that the soundtrack used is stunning and that I am very much facinated with the heroics of valiant last stands...

[EDIT] This does contain a spoiler for the second episode of Series three however...

Ive still yet to see past season 1 of the new BSG but hope too soon :P

I was determined to hate the new BSG when I first heard the idea (not that the original was actually good or anything (imho it was rather lame! but it was still a 'classic' ;)) but I just couldnt, it was too damn cool, and the first time you see galactica open fire with a full broadside....
