ACTA: Battlestar Galactica - Some input please...

Oh for the record the minis I was talking about werent the bits you get if you click the icon by galactics....

I mean scroll RIGHT down till you get to Galactic Dreadnoguht, Zhylon base star etc:

the plastic pre painted kits are very nice
there are some kits on ebay retailing at £55 and £45 each very well detailed
I'm not sure if anyone does fighters at the MGP scale though

will you reduce the number of Viper fighters per flight?

Oh and as for input about the rules:

Why does the Pegasus class not get the 'fire control' rule on its batteries? Its still a battlestar and operates on essentially the same principles doesnt it? Just seems a shame to come up with what I think is a rather nice rule and then only use it on one ship :)

Also, I know its not finished yet but what did you have in mind for the rules for 'nuclear weapons' (the trait youve given Battlestar missile batteries). For that matter, how come the Cylon ships missiles DONT get nuclear weapons? They use them on numerous occasiions in the show afterall :)

With result 5 on crits for Cylon ships do they still take the normal result but add d6 and ingore crew damage or do they simply take d6 damage if a 5 is rolled?

Other than that, looking good so far :)

I wouldn't bother with nukes for the BSG just cylon ones...maybe they should only effect crew as a lot of the story seem to indicate they are radiation heavy and shielding works very well against the blast...mayeb i'm wrong?

In terms of minis - the Bergstrom models look usable, but the Hasbro and Raven studios models are much better.

Don't know how the scale of the diecast hasbro ones would work out (also, they're diecast and prepainted and would need rebasing). But at about 5 dollars each that's not bad.

Well admittedly the Hasbro ones ARE nicer but they are both more expensive and they dont do a Mercury class or a Cylon base star as far as I can find (though I would be happy to stand corrected if someone could give me a link....).

Incidentally have Mongoose considered doing a proper licenced game for BSG with a fully licenced set of minis? (not that this fan made version isnt great but I for one would think this would be a great game to turn into a full on product and might be easier to get the licence for than something insane like Star Wars :P).

Of course it would be pretty limiting having essentially only 2 sides but then again thats pretty much the case with SST isnt it and that still did well enough :P

Do a search for Galactica on Hasbro's site - they do a Pegasus, a Galactica - but unfortunately not a basestar (yet, in any case). Their Raiders and Vipers are far too large, however - so Bergstrom looks good for those at least.

Maybe use these as part of a campaign rather than one of battles?

fewer fighters for the Bucket and i think flights should be a max of two ships (counter alteration if possible)

Also CQ for starbuck should be very high

personalities to add flavour

oh and some civies counters would be good

very few troops on the base stars, also need the regeneration craft and pics of a moon base for the tilium refinery

I already have plans for the civi counters... :)

In my latest draft the Basestar has zero troops... (but lots of naked Cylon agents...??)

You should definitely include a fair number of troops aboard each Basestar as they are not only the transports for the skinjobs and fighters, but also contain enough Bulletheads (Centurions) to launch Heavy Raiders on boarding missions, or to send detachments down onto planets to capture targets and ambush the Colonial forces.
Besides which, while a lot more vulnerable to attack than the Bulletheads, the Skinjobs are a LOT stronger physically than a human. That coupled with their extremely high numbers aboard each Basestar, they would be more than capable of holding off a boarding action by the Colonial forces.

And as for Nukes, these are an essential part of the show as they not only cause heavy structural damage, but also fires, which can be perfectly accounted for with Matts new rules for multiple fires in a recent S&P.

Apart from that and a few little details that others have already pointed out, i think you've got a fantastic game forming here. Keep it up dude.

Sorry for the double post, but i just had to point out that there's room for more factions than just the Cylons and Colonials.

First, there's the possibility of a separatist Colonial fleet. The show has already had episodes where collaboration and Cylon sympathisers have featured heavily, and since some Civilian vessels are armed, these have potential. Granted, it's a fairly limited potential, but it's still there.

Second, and here be spoilers, so if you aren't up to date with season 3 episode 11, DO NOT READ ON!

There are still the other 5? Cylon models we haven't seen, and the show has strongly hnted at the fact that these remaining Cylon models may not share the same views and beliefs as the Cylons we've seen so far.
Ok, so this is only a possibility for another fleet, but it might be worthwhile.

What are you talking about? I thought they were all cylons except Lee?
Well Helo and Billy definitely are.

Back to BSG...anyone have a battle report they want to share using the supplement? Some more pics of minis would be cool too...

I am planning to play a couple of games next week.

As for minis I am looking at the Diecast Hasbro sets (if I can get hold of them). And for the fighters I will use the ones linked to in this thread. I find their actualy Battlestaf figures to be too small... Because the game feature only a few ships they have to be big ones... 8)

Although THe basestars could be a problem...

I wonder how many versions of BSG rules are floating around out there! You'd think "somebody" would just get the rights and publish a system!

In my own version included the cylon virus, but had to tone down its effects for gameplay as you mentioned.

Nukes of course are in! :)
