ACTA: Babylon 5 to ACTA: Noble Armada

Roughly speaking a raid point is about 200 points.

So maybe patrol 50, skirmish 100, raid 200, battle 360, war 600, amageddon 1000.

Of course, there will be people who disagree on the exact ratio.

You could then point up ships accordingly, and vary the value of good and bad ships.

I'd say you're about right there Greg, but I would mention that a Raid ship vs a Destroyer would probably be an unfair match up, I'd guess at a shift 1 to the right (or left? erm...) to come closer to balancing things, so Raiders = Patrol (2 of), Frigates = Patrol, Destroyer = Skirmish and so on...

Not really an argument I want to have though eh? B5 would win because it's cooler ;)

I wasn't intending to do points for a cross over, just applying a similar level of points to B5. A coss over would be somewhat difficult due to the differences in weapons/shields/traits. OTOH if you were doing a x-over, then yes, go down a step.

Hmm, guess you would have to asign a points value to each weapon and a base point vauel to each priority level to determine each vessels point value.?

In theory you shouldn't need to; All ACTA 2e ships should be balanced against each other.

I know that in reality, they're not, but most aren't bad. It's just a case of using the priority level equivalents then knocking them up or down a bit as required.

Also:

a) Ships are worth their cost less the value of the fighters. In Noble Armada this is a lot easier to work out since ships are bought with empty hangars...

b) Shield criticals obviously need reworking to something else.

c) Boarding is a very big deal in Noble Armada - without grapnel harpoons the B5 ships will struggle - I guess this makes breaching pods very valuable, though!

I would say that your time would be better spent working NA's crit system into B5.

In fact I might go do that now :P

I have pretty much done an expermimental conversio of the Cetnauri fleet to NA stats - still retaining some of the "b5" traits.

The issues are those ships which have radically different crew and damage stats - not so bad with Centuari.

I'll stick it up later if its finished.

Points will be tricky - B5 ships seem to have awesome firepower compared to the majority of NA but most lack shields and likely will be vunerable to boarding. On the other hand - certain fleets - Shadows, Minbari will tear NA fleets apart I should think.

Biggest issue I can see is that nearly every weapon in NA has burnout, nothing does in B5, so B5 not having shields is not so much of a disadvantage as NA having shields is...

In looking at it took it that beam and mini-beams would cause burnout, most weapons would not and torpedoes and missiles would be slow. Rnages for the NA ships is quite high - although they will have trouble against the higher hull of B5.

Anyway have a look when i upload and see what you think :)

Quick and dirty conversion - really just changing relevant traits to NA ones and giving the rules for B5 Style weapons and equipment.

It would be an interesting engagement with the bvulnerability to boarding and limited burnout vs sheer firepower

I must admit I far prefer rolling lots of dice to only a few AD

working out points could be fun!
